New to Flatland
« on: March 19, 2008, 01:19:14 AM »
Can anyone give me tips on how to get better balance on my bike?  I am new to flatland so you will be explaining this to a rookie.  I feel like there are things I need to learn before I start trying even basic tricks.  Thanks!

you and me both - altho im a dirt jumper from waaaaa back in the 90's

there is a video from some flat dude who explains stuff realley well.
im buying it. -  I know - it sounds funny - to learn from a video
but apparently its good stuff.   and has like 50 trick exp. in it.

I believe its called "ground rules"

any how - ive got one bought off ebay.
cant wait till it arrives.

tonight I was trying to learn "mega spins"    and i got a fiew good ones with like 3 scuffs on the back wheel.     but im doing them diffrently than the guy was explaining them here,
http://www.global-flat.com/tricks/4/Megaspin
I roll in to them faster and end up doing a rolling dork / peg wheely in a large circle till I get around tight enough to start the mega spin.

did you check out the "tricks" section of this fourm yet?  its got some cool videos
I guess flatland riding is all about finding your own balance point.
and id have to say - the more you ride the more you will find your happy balance place.
Old dudes can still rip

kimrey and brian corvette- WELCOME to the wonderful world of flat. when i started in 86, there were no videos yet to teach you trix. 101 freestyle trix came out, but it was nothing like ground rules. one of the best ways to learn is if you can find riders that are "good". sounds corny, but it really works/helps. use the video well, it will treat you right!

Are ya just looking for the basics of balance??

Learn trackstands good. Try them many different ways. Once you can hold a track stand it'll give you a real good idea kinda how you have to shift your weight, hold it to one side, where your body kinda has to be. It'll really help.

Then I'd look at forkglides and peg wheelies, like mentioned.... those will really help you out.

Get those down good then come back we'll all help ya out. Lots of really great riders on this forum.

no not at all
it just helps alooootttt you wont fall on ur face as much
to learn them make sure ur pedal is down on the side that u will be leaning towards
so if u fall to far the pedal stops you from flipping
thats just to learn the balance...
