The Ultimate Flat+Street Bike!
« on: February 07, 2008, 12:03:31 AM »
It seems that lately a lot of people are (or want to) ride street and flatland with the same bike. So what is the ultimate flat+street bike that you can build (since there is no such stock bike)? Lets say 50/50, a bike that is capable of riding both worlds without compromising too much.
Post your setup.

A Function frame should be sufficient for most people who want a flat/street bike. It actually rides really well with strictly flatland parts on it, and if you like a little bit more offset, its even better! The thing is light, indestructible, and has all the proper angles. If if you're between 5 ft 8 and 6ft 2, I'd say check out Function for sure. Even some smaller guys like the frames.

I ride the Eastern Dragon 20"tt.  It might seem big for flat but its what I am used to.  And it was cheap.  I do lean more towards transitions than street though.

Hoffman EP....

18.75"TT
Diesel Dropouts
Very sturdy frame
Ask anyone it's a Great frame that can def handle the abuse of street but also has the form of a flat bike.

I have one if you want it. $60

I also have the EP forks that came with it and Hoffman Super stem.

I'll include that, Bottom Bracket and Headset for $80

If anyone is interested please let me know!!

I have an unfinished flat/street bike that I will finish some time this year, so I'll post pics when completed. But to have a good combination, it needs strong parts, especially the frame, and not too heavy, with all parts halfway between the two.

This would be a perfect blend.

frame      Hoffman strowler or Function
fork         minimal or zero odyssey or zero OG vajda
bars         minimal sweep of your choice, OG is light n strong
stem        anything 35 mm to 45 mm reach [suelo, dragonfly, profile hip etc]
hubs        geisha street 9t and any front
rims         ody hazard lites [super tough]
spokes     ss
tyres        ody freq Gs
sprocket   any brand 22t to 24t
cranks      profile 145 mm to 165 mm
pedals      ody twisted
seat         macneil combo
pegs         chro mo or ti so they grind well

things like grips , chain and seatclamp , just choose your preference and brakes
are your own choice to, but this setup will have unlimited capabilities.

I'll post pics of mine as soon as I finish.

You dont want a zero fork for a flat/street bike, especially if you're running a 35mm stem. I run a minimal Ody fork with a 35mm stem and the steering is twitchy enough as it is. I might switch over to a regular fork this summer. The 35mm stem just replaced a Bizhouse stem, and the bike feels way nicer now.

You rock the 35mm stems too, therefor you should rock a Function.

Fly Tierra Frame. 20.2 or a 19.8. The frame has an offset seat post so the 20.2 will feel like a 19.8 & the 19.8 will feel like a 19.4.
Odyssey Minimal Offset Fork
35/40mm Stem
Macneil Lighter 5's / Shadow Anti Sweep Bars
165mm Primo Hollowbites

The United Trinity frame: 19.5" TT, 13.75" CS, 75° HT and 5.3lbs. Shadow Conspiracy do a fork with 26mm reach, no U-mounts tho.

i agree, its much easier to find a flat-worthy street frame, than it is to find a street-worthy flat frame
