Hey everyone, I'm James and am getting back into riding after a 20 year break. I found my son a 97 Hoffman EP a few months ago and that sorta rekindled my love for riding. My 97 EP was the last bike I bought back in 1997, it was well ridden and loved. I would love to build mine back up and ride it again, but for now I'll borrow his lol.

sweet! sounds like a nice thing you've got going with your son there. did you update it or freshen it up for him? you may need some Ti parts to get the weight down a bit :D

Nothing yet as the guy I bought it from did a nice job building it up from just the frame and forks conditions he aquired it in. Yea I forgot how damn heavy these are! When the previous owner received it the frame dropouts had been machined to accommodate 14 mm axles. My original ep of course had 3/8 axles. I’m a lot bigger than I was when I stopped riding several years ago so at least when I do ride my sons bike I don’t feel like I’m gonna break the axles lol.

solid! goes a long way for peace of mind to have the 14mm then
would be great to see pics (upload em and link them in from IMGbb)

Surely 'Spanish bb'is all but done...?

My set-up is street, so flat specific will be limited. Guess Fec Ti will prosper due to this if you feel Ti cranks are worthwhile.

Compared to 22mm. 24mm makes a lot sense, upon my experience.
No extra top hat washers required.
Overall Lighter / stronger / stiffer  gram wise.

If i had pulled the trigger on these (i instead opted for the Far East Ti cranks ... arriving today), I would have simply reamed out my spanish BB. I use the polyurethane BB so they just squeeze into the frame (you have to install them by tightening your cranks down). Very much a fan of spanish, but at this point I can see benefits of a Mid BB like larger contact / welding area for stiffness & strength.
Good point, regarding larger contact area !

it will be his first time seeing more than 2 flatland riders in one place! :D
Oh man. You are going to LOVE the York Jam then. I remeber the first time I was in the presence of a LOT of really good riders and it was such a motivator. Have a great trip!

I tried one of these but couldn't figure out the grip on it...

That being said, i did cut away the supports underneath the seat. perhaps i should have left 1 or 2 of them to wedge my finger against and grip on (for turbine halfpackers)

the lower weight and low profile is pretty legit on these ... damn i should order another one just to try cutting it differently

These look great, wonder what the sizes are

Previous versions were  18.6" and 19.3" so I'm guessing it will be similar.

cool, i guess i am going back to a frame with this sort of gusset design. S&M intrikat arriving today, 19.5

one thing that concerns me on the S&M is how the gusset is fully welded onto the frame as opposed to leaving an open section the way that NOUS have. Welding all the way around can leave a concentrated stress riser leading to cracking.

What do you all think? better to leave unwelded or completely weld it
