I saw a dude riding a breakless setup 0 deg ofset forks and stem
at my local hockey rink down by federal hw and copans. - when I was skating.
he was a cool dude - let me ride his setup and all.

hope I run in to him again.
there is lotts of stuff I need to learn. and its harder to do by yourself.

You see, Kendall may be a bit too south for the folks coming down from north. (So far i know 2.) We gona try and make it happen around central east coast miami like Bayside, so its even for us to drive to. As for that shopping lot spot, would you be able to snap some photos so we have an idea of the scenario?

at the free park by his house. nice big smooth roller hockey arena on a verry slight slope.
had a good sesh. nice place to ride - and centraly located for all us south fl guys to get to.
turns out I know julian from when I worked at the skatepark in coralsprings. small world

95 get off at sheredan street - a little west,
and head a little south. - food and drink is avalable close by too.

what time do the lights stay on till out there?
I bet we could organize 5 or 6 guys to meet up one day there.
its definately not the kind of place you would get kicked out of for riding.

This weekend has been most active flatlanding for me. Saturday I met up with (Rick 72) and with his buddy Bruce, brought them to my fav open spot just in broward. Say we rode for a good 5 hours!! Yes a long day indeed since these guys drove 2 hr trip from naples just to meet up. Talk about unity :beer: ...I could learn alot from these guys, as i have already.

Sunday, as Brian tells the story. Fun riding at our new spot, which by the way I posted it on 'spot map' (mad info on that, go check it: stan goldman free park) Onward, sunday's blazing hot session burned for 4 hours :mellow: thank god for the mini stores next door and the most expensive slice of pizza i've ever eaten. Including the extra hour i rode myself resulted in my legs cramping and got tangled in bike :wub:. Skies the limit my ass!
The park lights kick in prior to darkness and turn off just after 9. Its true, we might just have our ultimate location for jams. I will shoot some pics a/s as i fix my cam.

PS - Brian, your techdeck bike is so f*cking light a baby can use it. lmaooo

Post by: RicanRider on April 30, 2008, 12:28:59 PM: So I ened up making my own BPS wheel (balance point setup), haha. You know...the front wheel, fork, stem and bar. NO FRAME. it took a good hour 30 min cuz installed brake and also my first time throwing it together. Its actually fun to cruise around in elbow glide stance. at least thats what i do. Rick had mentioned it to me, but it wasnt until i saw it in "The Byke Project" slideshow to show how it looked built.

on the fourth of july. was a good session. even on the sandy slick tarmac we had to ride.

every time I ride with rick he teaches me new stuff to dial in.
I doubt id be progressing as fast with out his help. rick is the man.

but dang it was hot. I managed to suffer a little heat exaustion, and sunburn but it was worth it to ride with guys as good as rick and bruce

so what up FL ? where are all you other flat peeps at? lets go ride!

rick, i went down to fl and rode w/brian and drew back in may. it was a good time. i should be back down in oct/nov again, i hope to meet up w/you also when i'm down there this time. we'll have a lil mini jam!

can probly convince flatland chris to show, me. vince is taken out right now with a torn bicep mussle ( ouch! ) and im shure Tik will show. maby his friend also.

would be cool if we could get seba and jose to come up from miami, or rick and bruce from

used to live down there in the mid 90s.
dont remember exactly which # streets it was between but it was just south of North Shore State Recreation Area in N. Miami.B between Harding and Collins.

it was nice down there, and much cheaper living than NJ.

South Beaches nightlife changed my life. NYC always treated me good, but South Beach treated me BETTER. :beer: :mellow: i used to walk from where i lived to SB almost every nite on the beach. good times.

Jason there is public parking (12th and Pennsylvania ave. )in front my house by week days its cheap like $15 bucks for 24hs also you can pay 1 buck for hour!

with a roof over the entire place,
it rained, we kept riding.

my self, tik , luis , and my homeboy gustavo ( aka gabe ) from miami came up
we had a good session for a while. I got tired and bailed first.

riding every day this week + work = me tired.
but also I learned a bunch of new crap.

now I can do hang 5 with one hand off the bars, and also make super small circles
in hang 5 - and cliffhangers are scarry still but I deal.

Had an awesome time going down and riding with Rick, Bruce, Terry and everyone else at the park in Lehigh. Ive been nursing this torn shoulder but I go to the surgeon tomorrow. Anyways, Thanks to Rick and a few others, My KGB Is up and running and I was able to retire the Militant I was riding. Im figuring that while Rick is up North will be a good time to try and come your way and ride also. Ill get back with you soon and see when we can set up a session. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon, Ill have a little more insight as to how long my shoulder needs to heal. Im trying to find some way to stabilize it so I can ride until it heals. As of now, it completely gives out on me as soon as I put ANY stress on it. Time will tell................. MIKE.

AND ALL KIND OF CRITTERS BUT NOT THE ONES THAT ARE NOT NATIVE AND
CAN EAT YOU THOUGH GATORS BEEN KNOWN TO TAKE A PERSON OR TWO!

THOSE BIG ASIAN MONITOR LIZARDS SCARE THE JESUS OUT OF ME TOO WHICH
YOU HAVE DOWN THERE ALONG WITH AMER.CROCS, IGUANAS, 3 TYPES OF MONKEYS,
GECKOS..WE DONT HAVE THESE TYPES OF CRITTERS HERE IN CALIFORNIA AND
WE HAVE GECKOS AND PARROTS AND THAT IS ALL! OH IGUANAS IN SO-CAL OR
LA LA LAND!

IM LOOKING AT SEPTEMBER 6TH-SEPTEMBER 21ST AND IF EVERYTHING GOES
WELL I MIGHT START MAKING FLORIDA A VACATION SPOT TO GET AWAY FROM
HERE AS THE WEATHER IS IFFY AS HELL LATELY AS WE HAD A HIGH OF 62 F
TODAY AND THE WIND MADE IT IN THE HIGH 50'S...BRRRRRR IN LATE MAY!!

Post by: johnu773 on May 25, 2009, 11:31:46 AM: ok, as the chicago transplant of south florida, i can tell you that miami is about 45-1hr from ft. lauderdale depending on time of day(up I-95). naples is due west of ft. lauderdale i believe about 1.5hrs away(down whats known as "aligator alley" or I-75). the rest brian could probablyy help ya with. my work usually sends me down there so i stay at the laquinta business suites in doral(just west of miami, but i've also stayed in miami lakes and up at brians girlfriends house in margate(by coral springs). aligators dont scare me at all...lol just ask brian how i walk right up to them ;D but the lil lizards they have crawling all over can get anoying cuz they startle you when ya dont expect it.

snakes dont come out. I have yet to see a snake over 2 ft long around here
and I live by the everglades, and ive been here 10+ years.
also have never seen a monitor or monkey. haha.

it was awesome riding with johnu773 from chicago one weekend,
and riding with david debueno from NY. the next at the covered hockey arena.
realley its my favorite spot to ride.
wish I could get the miami guys to come up and ride it once.
they would be hooked. its smooth and flat - pretty grippy - and it has a roof
and its huge - rain or shine = good to go and there is lights on till 9pm.
what more could you ask from a spot.

I SEE ON MY PROPERTY ALOT ARE THE WESTERN BROWN DADDY LONG
LEGS WHICH ARE THE MOST VENOMOUS SPIDERS HERE BUT THEIR FANGS
ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH TO PENETRATE HUMAN SKIN AND THE WESTERN
MARBLED ORB SPIDER WHICH HAVE VERY MILD VENOM.

I GOT QUITE A COLLECTION OF SPIDERS HERE AND THERE ARE A FEW OTHERS

when I catch them, I use long needle nose plyers to un hook them.

and they are ultra annoying when trying to fish, as they want to eat your lure also.
I have hooked up with about 6 gators that actually bit on to my fishing lure
and had quite a good time realing them in, as they fight like all get out, practicly spooling
my reel at times. some how they always manage to let the lure go, or the hooks dont set in well in their mouths maby as they have tough skin, cause I dont realley know what id do if I managed to reel a aligator up to the bass boat.
probly freek out and cut the line.

and there are turtles, and lizzards on the banks.

I have yet to ever see a snake in the everglades.
they are there, no doubt about that. I have never seen one = and im there alot.
maby they blend in well or something.
one intresting fact - they are constrictors.
and you will have plenty of time to fight off a constricting snake if attacked.
a simple pocket knife will completely ward off any snake trying to wrap around you
to suffocate you. just one or 2 jabs in with a pocket knife of any sorts,
and that snake is out of there. no poison fangs or anything to worry about like that.
food is plentyful in the glades for predators like snake and croc, so ppl are not viewed as
food source.
dont be scared of FL. due to that bro.

come down and ride with us.

so i am thinking amtrak and i can get to the Bart station which
is our local subway system and get to the Oakland Coliseum which
has an amtrak station within it.

i still need to check up on all the particulars but i dont know many days
it is to South Florida and then the cost and i will have about three weeks
between getting back from Europe and the start of the Fall University on
September 23rd.

dates i thinking of are September 4th-september 21st or if that does not
work out then i can come down another time when i have the whole summer
which looks like 2010 looks like that..i know it is the rainy season but hell we can
always ride in the many overhang areas you guys have.

After two n a half months off, I need some kind of sick session to throw me back into the swing of things. When is the next time you all wanna get a bunch of people together? Ill drive where ever.
BTW spoke to Alex down in Miami, (Well texted) Rumors abound of a possible jam down there. He even has some outside help. May be awesome.
Anyhow, get at me. Im gonna spend a couple days getting back on the bike before I ride with anybody, but would love to meet up for one huge sick session sometime in the very near future.
