There’s something mysterious about the flatland realm maybe it’s the rarity of it?

It seems flatland takes a lot more patience and discipline to learn in some strange way it reminds me of some sort of meditation? I was told newer generations attention spans are decreasing maybe this is also effecting people wanting to learn flatland?

It’s interesting to me that there’s not more flatland riders? I mean there is flat spaces everywhere

It’s also weird I can’t just go and ask people in person for help with a trick? Like at a skatepark? One reason I started looking at this forum which is awesome it’s like finding a rare item in a rpg

It took me a while to learn that flatland is a lonely hobby. I live in a big city (Sheffield, UK) so when I got my first flat bike I was sure I'd end up hooking up with local riders but no, I'm just riding on my own lol. My other hobbies are rock climbing and skateboarding which are very sociable. At first it was strange  but now that I'm used to it, I quite enjoy the solitude. 😁

Royc thanks for the link that was a good read. that is a awesome photo of Marcos Jesus at the top of the article.

I've always preferred the solitude of flatland, I am very much an introvert and prefer being alone 99% of the time. Over the years, I've spent probably 80% of my practice time practicing in front of my house. A few times over the years I've managed to 'recruit' a neighbor or interested passerby into the sport, they always start out so enthusiastic but then almost always give up/move on to something else within a short time.

Out of the group of several guys who started out flatalnding with me, as far as I know, I'm the only one who kept riding after high school, most everyone else just moved on I guess. They were fairly dedicated to the sport for a good 3-4 years before stopping though.

Definitely the solitary aspect of flatland is one of its biggest positives for me. I really don't like human interaction much...

I ride by myself in my back yard nightly after work in my yard. I usually turn on music or a podcast. But it is a solitary activity and having a wife and small kids it's the only alone time I get....

Same here. I love the social aspects of climbing and skating, but aside from occasional contests and jams, riding flatland has always been a time of solitude.
