Title: which contest is the flatland world championship?
Post by: ido rosen on January 10, 2018, 06:37:21 PM

I was always confused about this.
I always thought that the IBMXFF championship is the official also for flatland world championship.
but I know that many riders consider the bmx masters in Germany the flatland world championship.and then I saw that flatark was introduced as flatland world championship.
there was also the world circuit set of contests which were considered as flatland world championship.
So, which one is the real thing?
Thanks

Good question!
I think today it is similar to boxing. Many different titles at the same time...
I think BMXCologne like it is called today is not considered as World Championship any more. At least the organisers themselves to not state it like this.
But Flatark, IBMXFF, World Curcuit... Who knows?

and all these contests occur in the same year but there can't be more than one world championship per year, at least when compared to others sports.

i think the original and real was the bmx masters, wich is the one with the longest history.
At the moment in my opinion there is not a real world championship.

I see what you mean Michele, the strange thing is that several contests adds "flatland world championship" to their title.
would it be fat fetch to think that the IBMXFF is the real one since they are a international bmx freestyle federation created by riders? I'm not saying they are, I'm just thinking about it...

and you forgot to talk about the recent UCI flatland comps, and title, organized by FISE

this is the freestyle aspect of flatland competitions   ;D ;D :P

many initiatives, no real institution with authority, yet at least

Personnally I don't mind that little mess

Yes I agree that is "the freestyle aspect of flatland competitions"  :D B) O0
I don't mind the mess either, I just wanted to know if maybe someone else knows which contest is the real world championship.
Regarding "authority" and "institution", those two words don't go hand in hand with flatland  B)

Several "BMX Worlds" were held in Cologne (last one in 2012), so some people will still refere to the Masters as a World Championship, but it isn't now, they don't claim it on their website (http://bmxcologne.de/en/).

The BMX Flatland World Circuit (http://www.bmxflatlandworldcircuit.com) is a worldwide circuit... I guess it was supposted to take over that position of a World Champion for flatland. It would seem more fair as there are more events you can participate in but then again, if you have more money you can travel to more of them and get a higher ranking....

Now UCI / FISE seem to be wanting to take over the World Championship...

out~riding, yes all these events are confusing.
regarding the world circuit, I have mixed feelings about it:
on one hand it can be expensive to travel to all the events especially if one of them is in japan or usa,
but on the other hand you are not judged by one contest.
