CHASE GOUIN BARS
These are in the final stages of testing, and should be available relatively soon. I'll post an update when I have more. The 6 degree back and upsweep model will be out first.
Chase "B.S. Bar": 8 inches tall // 26 inches wide // 6 degrees upsweep // 6 degrees backsweep // 1 lb. 9.5 oz. // Black // 41-Thermal Lifetime Warranty
Chase "No B.S. Bar": 7.675 inches tall // 25 inches wide // 3 degrees upsweep // 0 degrees backsweep // 1 lb. 9 oz. (approx.) // Black // 41-Thermal Lifetime Warranty
and the flat forks
2007.75 FLATLAND FORKS
While we're talking about flatland, the Classic Flatland Forks are in production for zero and regular offset, and should be available within the next month or two. We will be making these in small batches, so this should give us the freedom to change options depending on the order. For example, we'd be able to do future batches of the regular offset with "removable mounts", or the zero offset fork with "no mounts", and so on. "Director-style" Flatland forks are a possibility, but there are no solid plans as of this date.
Regular Offset Fork: 2 lbs. 2 oz. (uncut 190mm steerer tube with pre-load bolt installed) // Tapered legs are pushed inward and notched on the inside // 5mm "regular offset" dropouts with radiused outer edges // Extended “Classic Race” steerer tube with 07 crown junction and front cable slot // 3/8” axle slots // flush-mount, cable friendly, 7075 pre-load bolt // Welded brake mounts // Rustproof finishing prior to powdercoating // Black, Limited // 41-Thermal Lifetime Warranty

The 8" Chase bars are available now in the U.S. so start hassling Pat.
-
Isn't that kinda heavy for a flat bar?
They look really nice tho, like the Tony bars.

no, not at all. The 8" bars are big and wide and still under 2 pounds. The 7 5/8 bar is almost 1.5 pounds and still large. I have been riding mine for months and love them. Hopefully they will be available within the next month.

The weight? They are about the same weight as the Tony bars and other bars similarly sized. If they were 6 inch bars or something, then yeah, maybe you could say they were a little heavy for their size. You're not going to get the same weight out of bars with a 2" difference in rise and not everyone likes the teeny tiny bars.
These do look a lot like the new T4 bars though. I like them both. The new T4's come with a few extra options though. The Chase bars are nice and wide - if I got them I could cut them to be the perfect size. It's going to be a tough choice when I go to buy bars next. I've been sorting of waiting to see how the new 08" stuff panned out and now I think I've narrowed down my choices to 2 or 3 bars.
-
any timeline on 0 sweep version?
I'm tired of waiting and am about to just go with the T4's
-
If they were a full zero combo setup I'd totally ride those.
Not real fond of any offset or back, up ,side, left ,right , parallel , diagonal or whatever sweep... it feels weird now.
-
Holdin out on us, eh Pat? ^_^

Someone had to test them. Actually a lot of people out there have samples they have been riding. Odyssey and Chase dont want to release anything until its perfect. The wait sucks but the quality is worth it.
As for the guy waiting for zero offset, I would say get the MTF bars. Tony's bars are incredibly high quality and available in many more options that what Odyssey can do. And not much more expensive either.

They mean minimal.

when these bars comin out?
-
6 degrees upsweep? woa, thats seriously bad for your wrists if you run them narrow...I cant imagine that being comfortable.
-
I just heard from one of my distributors that the revolving release date on these bars has been pushed up until the end of November.
I really want these things, but am considering getting some MTF bars instead.
I guess I just dont want to play the waiting game anymore.

I would say trust chase considering how many problems he has with his wrists. He's got to know what's good for someone who's taken a pounding throughout the years.
-
they are nice bars
-
Any news on the forks release date?
-
I cant wait. They remind me of the old Peregrine Q bars, without the top crossbar. Those were my fave bars.
-
Just check with my distributor again ,QBP.
They are saying now DEC 15 for a release date on these...
Sure..................
-
They look alot like my tony bars. I say go for the tony bars!
-
Thread necromancy at its finest! Has anybody heard anything about the release of these yet?
-
I would say its safe to safe early spring 2008.
-
got my set of 8" rise chase bars the day before xmas have yet to put them on, hopefully this weekend!
-
I'm not riding my flatland bike until I get a hold of some Chase bars!

Holy Jesusfish Batman!! Resurrected from the dead I says it is.

What? F***er.
-
Thats just plain not fair. You gotta tell me how they work out. I've got a hankering to go back to some wider bars. 25 and up.
-
So....Anyone else have anything to add in terms of bars?
At the moment my odyssey bars are just on their last legs. I've more or less twisted and bent them out of shape at least 1cm on the right side.
Its either 7inch sequences or No BS bars if they come out!!
-
What Ody bars are you riding?
Anyone know anything about the release date of the forks? I might be in the market soon.
-
Theyre some prototyped that Ed gave me before he left for California. I should say 1cm, its more like 5mm. But you can really just tell by looking that somethings off.
Ody forks were supposedly supposed to be out last year. From what I've gathered spring of 08
-
All Canadian riders should message Ryder Distro and ask them to continue bringing in the Ody flatland products, as they don't seem to want to bring anything in. It sucks, because some of us want to try and support our local shops and scenes, but aren't being given the oppurtunity because the distributor doesn't feel that its necessary or worthwhile to carry flatland products.
-
I say support rider-owned companies like Tony's MTF bars!
He was the first to come out with this design if I remember correctly, and you can custom order them to the exact width, sweep, color, etc. you want.
I just ordered a pair with these specs: 8" H, 23" W, 0 back/up sweep, 6.5" grip length, "machine" grey to match my Profile cranks, Bizhouse forks, and camo Sun rims!
I would rather pay more and support a rider-owned company if the choices are the same, or near the same.
I'm sure there are several guys out there that can vouch for Tony's quality level as well. I like quality welding!
I feel a lot of pride knowing my bars were welded by a rider!
And some people wonder why our sport struggles.
-
Show us your bike sounds like a sweet setup
-
Will send photos when it's all together in a couple weeks.
You should see the crazy blue metallic paint on my new Siiiick Child too! Blue, black & grey just like some of my bruises!
She's runnin' about 23 LBS!
-
the new T4 bars by Tony are an awsome pair of bars. I got a set of wider ones made by him which I no longer ride. I wanted something narrow, I should have got them custom right from Tony. I ended up makeing a pair of bars which have been holding up for some time now. He makes a killer frame as well.
-
I like to try and support rider owned companies as much as I can. The only thing thats kept me from getting a pair of Tonys bars was price. I really cannot justify spending upwards of 150 on a set of handlebars when I can get two pairs for the same amount of money and have some left over. Not to put a drag on the quality of his work, its phenominal. I'm just not all that rich.
-
Anybody know the deal on the release date of these? Are they even really making them?
I work at a shop and one of my distributors said May 1st of 2008. Seriously, these bars have been in distributor catalogs for over a year now, but out of stock.
Does it really take over a year to work the quality control bugs out of production?
Or does Odyssey just put flatland on the back burner?
Flatland is the only reason they exist today.
Sheesh, Maybe I'll just get a custom set of MTFs.
Sorry for the rant. Just seems its taking forever.
-
I actually asked Pat about this a few days ago (I just didn't want to bump this thread again).
He said to me: "Odyssey says Chase bars are still going to happen.....they just dont know when."
Eventually, I'm probably going to give up and get a set of OG Caramel 2's, but I'm going to stay patient and optimistic for a while longer, since there's nothing wrong with my 44's just yet.
-
Yeah, I actually didn't want to bump this thread either, but I did.
Thlayli, good lookin out on the time frame.
I'm a little bit sad the way odyssey treats flatland. They picked up Terry and had Chase already.....but continue to focus on "sage" or "name a martha stewart color" colored groupos for street. As if new colors help you learn footjams or manuals. Possibly they need a new slogan on a Castro Hat.
Whatever floats their boat.
This news doesn't suprise me at all.
-

looks like somebody has these and are already selling them on ebay.

yes, they are...i like mine a lot...
best bars ive ever had, they just feel perfect...
-
Yeah, well I gave up. Odyssey doesn't seem to want the business. I bought SickChild instead, even though I would've preferred more sweep. I love Odyssey to death, but they really dropped the ball with these bars if they're still not available for retail sales in the States.
-
The Odyssey parts look great (including that illusive G-sport coaster) but by the time they realse them they will be out dated which I think is hilarious but hey keep coming out with new colors
-
I'm finally getting my goddamn Chase bars, this means I can start being a flatlander again!!!
-
Oh no, Odyssey is actually having these parts put through rigorous testing!
When KHE keeps pumping out new stuff, and it breaks, everyone gets upset that they don't test their parts hard enough, and now when a company is testing stuff, you complain that you want it sooner.
If someone really needs new bars, there's PLENTY of options already out there. If someone just wants these bars, I'm sure they can wait for them.
I personally really enjoy a lot of the stuff Ody puts out. Yeah, it takes a while, and apart from the tires and forks, they haven't really done much else for flat, but I think they're doing a pretty decent job. Hell, as hideous as the bars look, I really agree with the dimensions and am slightly interested.

Why didn't the Chase bars go through "rigorous testing" internationally? Why would it be okay for Europe and Asia to be able to buy the rejects retail?
I mean, sh*t, you can look through this thread alone; quite a few people that don't live in the US have had their Chase bars for a long time now... the set on eBay still have the retail packaging. Obviously they've been in production and on the shelves elsewhere. But not here. the people in the US that do have the Chase bars either got them from a hookup or got them overseas.
They were scheduled to be released a year ago. It doesn't seem like they even bother to make excuses to Pat anymore: "Nope. Dunno. Look at the pretty colors!"
-
I guess what I and others are trying to say is that its one thing to go through extensive testiing but theres a point where(and love ody to death) where its just BS how much testing is need for a bar that will be obsolete the time its put out in the U.S
-
The bars don't pass quality control in US because of inconsistent sweep. Other countries don't care about sweep not being exact. That's it.
-

Its almost a running joke at my shop between me and the guy that orders parts.
quality bikes has had these bars, picture and all in not one, but two editions of their parts catalog.
being in 2007 and 2008.
bout every time the guy tries to re order them. The distributor is like,, "OK, should be in at the beginning of next month." So far its been about a year and a half of "next months".
I might as well opt for a set of custom mtf t4s. Its just way expensive for custom ,when i can get the chase ones with my shop discount.
-

No offense or anything, but you'd figure they'd shop out the job to somebody that could get the job done right.
They dont seem to have a sweep problem with all the many street bars they make. They seem to always be coming out with street stuff without a hitch.
Hrmm, makes you wonder
-
If Odyssey wanted these bars out, they'd be out. For some reason, Odyssey doesn't want these bars out and I don't buy any questionable "quality control" arguments. They've been around for years and they aren't that special as to require 2 years worth or testing or for it to take 2 years to get a vendor to do them right. Sorry, I don't buy it. There are other factors involved, trust me.
I really like the looks and specs of these bars. Ultra-low curved crossbar and narrow width at the bottom for all around clearance, they are not composed of 20 different metal bars (which I really don't like), and they are available with a decent amount of sweep and height. The MTF T4 bars are similar, but I liked the specs on the Odysseys more but I'm not holding my breath.
-
I'm just re-saying what Pat said earlier, plus I know Chase is picky and probably doesn't want his bars to hit the US market with wrong sweep.
If you consider custom MTF bars, you should also consider London ones. I got myself a set and was impressed with quality and how even sweep was. Will is also a nice guy.
-
they may look simular...but side by side...they are two totally different bars...even cosmetic...
-
Someone said the bars would be out-dated by the time they come out on the american market.
Bars never go out of fashion. There are plenty of bars still kicking around that are 10+ years old, and that people still want to ride. Castillo/AD bars are a great example.
How many types of bars can you really produce? Every type of bars pretty much been made already.
Oh, and I dont care what else anyone says because IM FINALLY GETTING MY GODDAMN CHASE BARS!
p.s. - screw QBP and J&B
-
The bars don't pass quality control in US because of inconsistent sweep. Other countries don't care about sweep not being exact. That's it.
and who decides this?
-
Get you custom MTF bars. I will never get another one.
-
and who decides this?
Odyssey quality controls their stuff in US, and distributors control Odyssey stuff in other countries, I think.
