Title: Voodoo Jam 2012
Post by: Scott O on February 29, 2012, 04:43:56 AM
Hello all. Well we are back after 2 year break.

We are rolling at the moment setting up Voodoo for 2012. The Date is June 9th. In New Orleans Louisiana.

Website is being built right now by Hector Garcia. Splash page is up. www.voodoojam.com (http://www.voodoojam.com) .. Thanks Hec!!!

Some things to touch on.

We will still have the big Jam on Friday before. Location and details later. Most riders that come and spectate enjoy that day so its very important to us to have the Jam on Friday.  That is a big event on its own.

We plan on having 3 classes. Beginner, Expert and Pro.

Pro format changes are to come. I will release those on the website. But I also explained my changes on Flat web tv interview coming out in March. Thanks Justin!

We also want to increase rider participation and have riders be excited about being a part of such a fun and special event. The crowd at Voodoo's Pro Final's is the best in the world to ride in front of. People love to come year after year just to see Flatland.  Most of these people do not even ride but love the event and can't wait for its return.

Also, winner of Expert WILL ride in Pro class. We really want riders to make the jump and what better way to do it with no stress just go out and have fun with nothing to loose.
We did this in 2004(Shayne Kaja)

Sponsor interest please contact Terry Adams- flatlandadams@yahoo.com
Follow me on twitter for updates and stuff about Voodoo Jam @EmceeOB

Think thats all for now..

Much Love and hope to see you all at The Voodoo Jam!
Scott and Terry

I intend on attending. If you're only going to make it out to 1 AMCircut stop this year, let it be VooDoo. I've booked the days off from work and I'm on course for my savings plan. Nice.
I was at the 2008 contest and prejam. The prejam was at a smaller basketball court or some sort of cement slab. It was cool, but like 40 people showed up to ride, and there was room for about 3 people to ride. SO *ahem* hoping the prejam will take place somewhere more spacious. I don't want to be rude or pushy, but I'll be dropping a cool grand or so to make this event and I don't want to spend it sitting in the grass. I want to ride mothaf*ckers!

Thanks

#1 Reason it is there because people are friendly and we don't get kicked out.
I am considering a few other locations if it changes i will make an announcement. It's a basketball court so thats pretty big. Not sure why you could not find space to ride at something that size. ??
We have about 3 jam circles going on at once. The last time was 2009 and there was a lot of riders there riding and enjoying the vibe for sure.

Amahl as too the baseball stadium we have to make sure there is no game and there is a police station right there now. SOOOOOOO, We of course run the risk of getting kicked out of private property. We should have 40 to 60 riders come.

I have time and a few other spots to check out.
Let you guys know.

Thanks for coming!!

Super Rad VooDoo Jam One of ma fav sporting events...would have been great to attend 2012.

...however I'd like to see TJ Perry at this event and in the judges seat again.  >:D :P B)

(TJ was awesome in encouraging a few of us who do and don't ride Flatland to attend the past Voodoo Jam. So what ever your attendance TJ and to others Go Voodoo!)...N

I wouldn't get that guy to judge. He's gross at Scrabble. Like so horrible. That has to effect his judging skills.

I couldn't find space to ride because it was a basketball court and there were about 39 other riders there! lol Come on now.  I find the Toronto Jam space tight and that's like 3 times the size.

I know it's difficult to accomodate an event like this, but I thought I'd just give my input as I work so damn hard for my money, I don't have a lot of time to go on vacation and ...I work so damn hard for my money, so hard for it honey, so you better treat me right ;)   I just want to make this trip worth it is all.

one court for that many riders was and may again be a tight squeeze- especially for anyone that covers ground in links.
it's going to be great, but Paulatrix does bring up a really valid point. it would be good to have a bigger spot, if that's possible. 40-60 bikes on one court is no joke.

Hey Scott, it's Josh, from here in metry. I live pretty much almost across the street from Zephyr Stadium in the neighborhood back by Mike Miley playground. and I also agree with Amahl. What I think you should do is just to try and talk to people at that police station and people at zephyr stadium to see if it would be okay to host something in their parking lot. I always past zephyr stadium and see events going on in the parking lot and it seems like the police station and the zephyrs staff are okay with it. Just try to give them a call sometime and see if it would be okay. I think that HUGE parking lot would be best suited for 40-60 riders. they would love it.

Heres a picture of the stadium and paring lot. The section between the two biggest parking lots is where the police station is. (http://i927.photobucket.com/albums/ad116/TrAxXasKiD909/Screenshot2012-03-16at111314PM.png)

I know where the stadium is. Thank you.

Easier said then done. Show up to a police station and pro baseball team and ask if you can take over their parking lot with no benefit to them, probably Not gonna work. They will think we are a liability and insurance blah blah. Been there, done that and dont have time for the headache. Its better to be in a spot that welcomes us and we can kinda do what we want. Red Bull Dj truck and such.

Like I stated before, there are some other options I am looking at and if a change will be made I will announce it on our website. www.voodoojam.com (http://www.voodoojam.com)

Its all about the fun and getting together. So lets do that!

Thanks
SOB

Gumby, you Josh wiess?..

That is the reason we cant run SCCA races at Zephyr parking lot. And I doubt anyone would want to hang out next to NOPD all day. Just saying  ;D

I'm planning on going to this because I haven't been to a Voodoo Jam yet but I definitely wont be competing. Injured Faith, word to the wise my friend, I've competed multiple times in AMFLAT contests at beginner level and unless you have a really strong urge to compete I would strongly advise against it. Just ride and have fun until you're content with riding at expert. I've been told by a couple guys that judged and were involved in the contest that most of the judges really dont take beginner class seriously and that you most definitely won't get judged fairly. But that aside, I'm sure Terry and Scott are gonna run a top notch event and I'm kinda stoked for the first time in a long time on a contest.

I am excited about the Vet Class (Old Man Class) for guys like me that aren't novices, but are too old and rusty to compete with the experts or pro's....

That 10am start time for the old man class is the only thing holding me back. That'd be 8am for this old man. I don't even know my own name that early.

Pretty profound bro but I'm certain flatland as a whole has been judged unfairly... And dude... get stoked! :)

Thanks again Flat Fan, I'm still very much bummed about not being able to ride competetively especially since its the ressurection, I'm too young to compete in the (Vet)Ol fogey class and too uncoordinated (for now) for the (Am)Almost class. hope we session together at voodoo!

Needing some help to make Voodoo happen for a couple riders in the Kansas City area. Please contact me asap if you are needing a ride or have room for two riders. I don't feel comfortable driving 14 hours solo since rider number two doesn't drive. Also, looking to share hotel expenses. Thank you in advance. Jm
