Title: Lea Dobrowski: I Did Not Fall Off, I Never Stopped and Never Will Stop Riding
Post by: Mr News Bot on February 16, 2012, 11:39:04 AM
Last year Lea started her Column here on Global-Flat and interviewed Percy Marshall in May. Unfortunately she went through a rough patch and took a break from writing for us. But now she's back with an update on what happened in the meantime. Lea is still riding and we're looking forward to seeing her progress this year!

Furthermore you can find a photo of her in the current issue of the tattoo magazine Inked. Of course sitting on her bike!

do you think your progress is hurt by having fake boobs??? i mean you can't really ride super hard because a bad fall would pop one of them suckers and then you would fall off again.  i mean take a break...i mean fall off...

do you find your balance is affected by being so top heavy?

Title: Re: Lea Dobrowski: I Did Not Fall Off, I Never Stopped and Never Will Stop Riding
Post by: Lea Dobrowski-Silva on February 16, 2012, 09:06:06 PM
Hahahahah. well my fake boobs have nothing to do with my progression, and actually if you knew anything you would know that they would not pop lol. People like you motivate me more!

Do you find your balance is affected by your ignorance?

No offense, but i cant help but thinking your popularity is more for your good looks rather than your talent. What would you think if other female riders out there feel disheartened that they arent getting the same exsposure due to them not being "pretty"?
Title: Re: Lea Dobrowski: I Did Not Fall Off, I Never Stopped and Never Will Stop Riding
Post by: christjesus on February 16, 2012, 09:15:30 PM
no not at all...my progess is affected the amount i ride...ignorance is bliss.  and your right i don't know what its like to have fake tits...and never will...although i'm sure landing on a peg tit first would do wonders for the implant.

keep up the good work!!! you go gurl!!!

and by work of course i mean fake tits...

topsey...you might be on a slipperly slope...or maybe spur a bunch of female riders to rely on sexuality rather than talent...either way i'm going to chose ignorance...
Title: Re: Lea Dobrowski: I Did Not Fall Off, I Never Stopped and Never Will Stop Riding
Post by: Lea Dobrowski-Silva on February 16, 2012, 09:27:50 PM
Topsey, I feel extremely bad for woman that ride that would feel that way. Just like when I watch a woman rider's video, I get distressed to see that people comment on how she looks or what she is wearing vs. her progression and/or talent. I have never been one that wont admit that I am positive that bc I am attractive to others it gives me an advantage at times, but I also know that my genuine interest in other people, the kindness that I try to show others, my yearn to help others and my passion for riding also get's me places and gives me some truly great friends. Yes some of the time looks get you somewhere, but really it only get's you so far. I am not concerned if anyone thinks I am good looking or not, fat or skinny, I don't even take the time to notice, what I care about is helping others, and enjoying flatland. And Yes I know that progression is affected by how much, or perhaps both how much you ride and how hard you ride (which was not the question it was about balance, just sayin). And it shows you are ignorant to life if you honestly believe ignorance is bliss. Knowledge is bliss. But everyone is allowed to have his or her own opinion.

These Lea threads always end up going the same way... Guy's can't we just drop it already... Either keep it on topic or don't post at all. If you really need to debate the same old thing then start your own thread in open talk and stop turning her threads into a flamming match!

Thank you

You know Einstein once said, The definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

So why do you expect anything different?

Also a question to you Lea.
What makes you better and or different than the next rider? I think the issue most people see is your getting attention over someone else that is a much better rider than you. There must be some reason right? Hint you're Female. (Honestly if you were a guy you would not have the blog)
This is only a Male dominated sport because most females are not interested in riding a BMX bike. Its not because we (male riders) wont let you. Hell I am sure 99% of the guys would love for you to ride with them.

I am sorry I am coming off harsh, but damn. Why not write about the joys of riding and not how you are trying to break into a male dominated sport?

Take care

Seriously guys dont direct hate at lea I think she is sincere as a rider and person regardless if you agree or not . Its martin the cockmongler who puts her on a pedestal in a  hope traffic will increase on his site due to her good looks reeling in desperate forever alone flatlanders who get a tank load of pre-cum at the first glimpse of a female within 10 metres on a bmx .

I don't hate her. I don't know her. And Like I said sorry to be harsh.  Really I am.
But it always rubs me the wrong way when female pull the Its hard living in a male world BS. (and I am not talking about this article.
Hell she is way better than I will ever be. And I have no problems saying that.

Thank you to those that welcome me... And I am glad to hear that talking to Kim helped. I was hoping that letting her talk to me and giving her some advice on how I coped would help her, so I am super happy to hear it did!!! And Cajun, as before I have already been through those threads that ask what makes me different and if I was a guy i would not be getting this attention. I am no moron I already know this. But like anyone why would I say no. I interview sincere and great riders, and I plan to keep doing that. And I am actually uploading a small clip tonight.  And I talk about being in a male dominate sport at times yes, but it is because I am asked, and I am asked by other woman riders also how I deal with it. I am never ashamed to admit that males are stronger and that gives a definite advantage, really it does. But really I just love riding and love BMX. Enough said

Lea,

I see your side of things, I really do. But I would have to disagree on the strength thing for flatland. (have you seen some of these dudes in skinny jeans?)  ;D

Also do you have a recent flatland edit?

Again I am sorry and did not mean to come off harsh.

I always thought that female riders were at a disadvantage because they all have girl cooties.  Thanks for shedding light on this.

whoever it was that claimed i didn't read the article...i read most of it...it sounded whiny, self serving, and attention seeking...job well done.  There are plenty of female riders out there and if there first 'article' was entitled Boobs, Bmx, and whatever the rest of the title was, i'd dismiss that other female rider as well...

hooray for bullsh*t riding!!!! hey look i just landed a fork wheelie!!!! who gives a sh*t (in reference to me landing a dumb beginner trick) , i barely do!

all tits mcgee is doing showing girls that all you have to do is be pretty and sexualize yourself...in turn coverage will happen.  talent, skill, dedication...that type of sh*t doesn't matter...

I'm saying it and standing by it...she's sort of like Kim Kardaprian (spelling?) unfortunately only one of them has a sex tape...maybe they both do?!?

wow, sure sounds like a junior high locker room when a girl walks by---big pissing and ego boosting contest going on.  sure lea isn't on the level as erin donato or some others, but does that mean she can't contribute to the sport?  she DID enter a contest with a bunch of guys and did a pretty damn good run.  i don't know many of u internet riders have ever entered a contest but it's HARD to pull tricks under pressure in front of a crowd.  she's putting herself out there and getting exposure so doesn't that help the sport?  Yes there are other girls in flatland and they're not getting coverage not because of the way they look, it's because they're not in comps/jams/videos.

is there even a handful of serious or semi serious female riders in the US? i don't get why Lea is criticized for not being "the best". she's got a strong will, and she's learning tricks.
i know a lot of decent men that would have just walked away from riding if they had similar hardships.
also, you can't read this and post and complain that she only gets attention because ____.  she got your attention, dumbass, take a moment and reflect on your own feelings first.
i've sessioned with Lea on several occasions, and she's impressed me, and the OG crew. she rides her ass off trying to progress.
that's basically all i have to say on that. welcome back!

youre just smoochin brown eye because you going to get interviewed.  i can think of more than a handful of riders that should get an interview...

Please don't think i am implying myself in anyway...as a flatlander i have a good anti-social streak...that's why i hide behind a messianic handle...

Lea is a girl, but I don't care, she is learning fast and practising alot. I have the same respect and opinion for her than any other male rider. Even if she isn't pro, it doesn't mean that she can't write good articles. Personally, I enjoyed all of them because she always chose good subjects.

It's not that the riders on here are anti social creeps it's that these stupid cunts want attention/respect because they have a slit between their legs when they haven't earned it. I have the utmost respect for Erin Donato because she doesn't objective herself like this cunt does.We have plenty of stupid bitches in Milwaukee that ride street and are the same way as lea. All they do is go to the skatepark, hang out and hop from rider dick to rider dick. If you want respect from other male riders stop objectifying yourself and selling yourself as some sex object you stupid bitch.

"Disputes with men, pertinaciously obstinate in their principles, are, of all others, the most irksome; except, perhaps, those with persons entirely disingenuous, who really do not believe the opinions they defend, but engage in the controversy from affectation, from a spirit of opposition, or from a desire of showing wit and ingenuity superior to the rest of mankind. The same blind adherence to their own arguments is to be expected in both; the same contempt for their antagonists; and the same passionate vehemence, in inforcing sophistry and falsehood. And as reasoning is not the source, whence either disputant derives his tenets; it is in vain to expect, that any logic, which speaks not to the affections, will ever engage him to embrace sounder principles." - Hume
If you don't like me I don't care, you can call me whatever name you would like, you can say what you want because you have that freedom. You can go nameless in your silly and vulgar comments, the point is made above with Hume's Quote. To be honest, you are just giving more attention to the subject you wish had no attention. Those of you posting these comments I know are probably older than me. I don't disrespectfully comment back at you so what does that say? and BTW I don't go from rider dick to rider dick, one of my ex's who got me into riding who is still a dear friend to me was a rider and yes I dated Alexis, but we still talk from time to time too and it wasn't because he was a rider. Also I don't just sit around and watch people ride, you obviously have no clue about me and obviously have never rode with me. On that note... I will no longer respond to these ridiculous comments only to the ones from mature adults. Thanks to those who support me, and I am glad you recognize my help to others and my love of flatland.

I don't understand what your contribution to Flatland is and/or why it's considered valuable.

You brag about how your fake tits have gotten you unwarranted 'publicity.'  That's a real achievement - frankly you're reinforcing all the most negative aspects of gender roles in society, and embracing them. Why someone would give you a platform, for what I could only imagine would be to encourage other females to ride -- is beyond me.

Cheers.

I'm not hiding behind sh*t. I've been riding for nineteen years and was a pro ramp rider at one time so I can say whatever the f*ck I want to whomever I want.

Ramp rider, why does that give you authority in a flatland forum?

Does 19 years of riding give you authority to be a dick!?

What happened to respect? Nobody teach you about respect in your 19 years of riding?
So you don't find value in Lea's posting, fine. But what makes you the expert that says nobody else should be exposed to it? Be a MAN and walk away when you aren't interested. Instead, you act like a 16 year old punk who thinks he's got the world by the balls and knows everything there is to know. You don't know sh*t!

There is little worse in this world than not giving other human beings respect. You don't have to agree with everyone, but it isn't your duty to rip on people that don't hold YOUR standard.

If there are posts on this board of what not to be as a human being, they wouldn't be from Lea, they would be from you, and christjesus. These are posts that I will show my Son as an example of what kind of person NOT to be.

several years ago there was this girl rider who showed up in a couple of videos doing tricks that some of us better riders could do, yet she got a custom one-of-a-kind frame, sponsorship, magazine coverage.  I saw her at one contest and she didn't talk to anyone and didn't even touch her bike ONCE the whole time.  oh, and last i heard she quit riding.

short and sweet...

respect is earned, not given.
riding should be more about skills and character, than "x's and o's, penis' or holes.

Lea, keep up the good work on the bike but don't let fame or popularity take over.

Ya know i usually stay out of these types of posts as i think they are immature.  but i knew Erin Donato and this comment got to me. Erin rode for YEARS i met her in the late 80s. Shes a very good rider, whether she doesnt ride anymore or not. She got coverage because shes been around for a long time. She got a custom frame because she is freinds with Ed Nussbaum. He Made the frame as an experiment/one off (or something along those lines) and she liked it so he gave it to her. i heard that straight from Ed. She didnt have a "custom frame" made by any company. So you should shut your face about Erin.

As for Lea...who the hell cares, im glad theres another PERSON in to flatland...male or female. If you dont care about her colum/article whatever, then dont read it. You people are rediculous..you see a nice looking girl and all turn into animals. what a bunch of children.

John -
I appreciate your take, and it does make a bit of sense, to a point.

I, personally, try to treat everyone with respect, up until the point where they show me they are not worthy. For example, I do not call my son's friends losers, even though some appear to be. However, after they show me their character flaws, I will.

Just because most of the women i know with fake boobs have character flaws, I'm not going to assume Lea has the same inflictment, as I have not met her. So I'll show her respect as a human being for now.

The TMI statement is likely spot on though. Talking about injuries, and managing school, work, and riding time are all valid subjects. But I really don't think anyone on this board cares about her boob doctor or anything even mildly related.

But I think it is unfair to say she shouldn't have a forum becuase she doesn't fit someone else's mold. Will she get more attention because she is a woman? Yes. Is it unfair? Maybe. Is life fair? No!

I'm willing to bet that there will be haters for Tony Hawk's son, Riley. It's not fair that he gets put on a skateboard at such an early age. It's not fair he will have the best ramps to ride and coaches to help him along. It's not fair that people will be looking at him before he has accomplished great things. But in the end, it's Riley who skates, and puts in the work.

I just find it bad form to be hating on other people who may have been lucky to get the breaks they got. Life happens, we need to worry more about ourselves, and less about others successes.

not hating at all joe, and i agree about "benifit of the doubt" with people until they prove themselves otherwise.  never said she doesn't "deserve a forum, thread or column" just suggesting to keep it about riding and riding related experiences since it was given to her because she's a rider (not because of her looks).
i also dont know what you read or are assuming about saying "she doesnt deserve it because she doesnt fit the mold" because i said NOTHING like that either...please re-read what i wrote!

i never assumed she had flaws because of fake boobs (never said that), what i DID say is it's really no one's business if she has fake boobs or not and she should just keep info like that to herself ( i personally dont care if they're fake, real or stuffed with tissue) it's just not riding related.
i didnt see any "hate" i my post, so i don't know how you are seeing hate...

I obviously have to make some things clear because a lot of people don't understand what I was doing in my first column or why I did it that way, and let me make some other things clear.

I wrote that first article the way I did to air out what I knew would be said about me. There was a lot of sarcasm in that first article that quite a few people didn't grasp. I pointed out things like my boobs for instance to get it out of the way. If I call it out myself with an air of sarcasm then it means it shouldn't be a big deal, it was to acknowledge that I already know what people think of me, and have personally said to me. To be honest I wrote it out like that because I was sick of hearing about it, so my way of responding was to joke about it. If you look at the comments you will notice that the people that have rode with me tried to point out what I was doing... yet no one seemed to realize it. so I let it be, but obviously others can't either see what I was doing or let it go.

Secondly
I would like to refute the comment about how women aren't entering contests or putting out videos, because that is not true. Paula for one put's out videos throughout the year, and you can find vids of aude at contests. I have never met Erin but I respect her and her riding. She is much better than me, I have no clue if she still rides but I hope she still rides because she is an awesome rider. Monica Hinz (sp?) also goes to contests, and put's out vids, and has interviews also. Where IriNa went I am not sure, I haven't seen any new vids from her lately, but i know she too went to contests.

Third
I do my best to put entertaining articles or interviews up. Like I said I would love people to send me messages about the riders they look up to, or think deserve to be recognized. My goal is not to promote myself it is to simply promote riding, and riders. I help who I can, and I give the advice that I KNOW works for me. I will never give advice on a trick I don't know... that would just be ridiculous.

Lastly
I love my bike. Truly it kept me sane. I have had plenty of convos with riders this last year, not only did they help me cope with everything, but I have been lucky enough to say that I have helped a few get through some tough spots too. Helping a rider get motivated is a really amazing thing and pretty humbling. I appreciate all riders. I appreciate what riding does for a person, how it helps people cope, regain a sense of control, use their imagination, and appreciate the love and dedication that goes into riding. I may not be nearly as good as a lot of riders, but I sweat my butt off trying to get there. With a hectic schedule I ride as much as I can trying to get the longest sessions I can. I work my ass off on that bike I don't sit around and fiddle my thumbs. I break toes and fingers too, I tear tendons for christs sake. If that doesn't show my dedication I'm not sure what will. I care about flatland and the riders who ride flatland. I hope EVERYONE progresses even the people that talk sh*t about me.

I sincerely apologize about my comment on erin.  She is an AWESOME rider and although i've never met her, I've met ed and he's got nothing bad to say about her. My post in no way was supposed to be directed at her.
it was everytime a comment was made about female riders, someone would immediately compare them the erin--like they are not worthy of anything unless they were better than "erin".  it would be awesome if you weren't allowed to write articles on flatland unless you were better than "chase" if you were a guy.

Lea, all i was trying to say in my post was "keep it more bike and riding related and less girl and "girl rider" related.  that way people can respect you as a rider, not as a "female rider" or a sideshow freak.  people here tend to make the biggest deals out of the littlest things so don't feed them anything...
that was my point!

I always want to keep it about bikes, or what riding does for a person! and when I do mention female riders it is because they too deserve some recognition! If anything I want to promote it to more women so it wont be so subjective. I think that since females riding is a smaller, much smaller, minority, that sometimes those riders get talked about in the wrong way. The simple fact remains though... ROB ROE  lol... can we lighten the mood in this forum now lol

i guess im the 1%  i see riders as riders, not guy riders or girl riders.  i rode with a bad ass chick from kevin porter and chris langs trails for years and respected her cuz she could jump bigger doubles than me.  yes, 99% of people freaked when i brought her to comps, jams and skateparks but oh well.  hell she actually lived with me for a year to finish school.

I think it should just be about the rider... but this is not a perfect world. It is always awesome to see a girl giving it her all and not having that thing inside that says don't do that like most women. I think women's mentality is quite different, which is proven, but I think that is why it is always rad to see a woman get out there and go head to head with the testosterone ya know. And there are some pretty awesome ramp riders that are female out there that just go nuts. It is definitely cool to see. I'm guessing your friend doesn't ride anymore?

So I've ridden with Lea quite a bit in the past couple years.  She is there to RIDE.  I know plenty of "riders" that show up and just kinda hang out and fool around but never really focus on what they are doing or really TRY to progress.  That is not Lea.

Do her articles stir up controversy?  Yep.

Why?  Because she shares too much of what she has going on and opens the door for people to pile on and start hating.  Perhaps some people feel she hasn't EARNED the right to voice her opinions and share her life outside of riding.  Well guess what....this is an internet forum and you ALL have the opportunity to start a thread about whatever the hell you want.  You also have the choice whether or not to read what she has to say.  Go ride.
