Here is the low down. The HooK will be available in three different sizes...26mm, 35mm, and 50mm reach. The release date is set for Aug. 15th. For sure they'll be available in black anodize and I'm still considering another color? The stems will be available through flatlandfuel! If you have pre-ordered through aaron@sequencefab previously I'll honor the shipping. I'll post pics of the anodized finished version as soon as possible. Take care - Aaron

aaarg that's a mighty fine deal for sure! the other stems may walk the plank!
-
Expect my order to be coming in next week, after I get paid.
Now, I am only waiting on your new bars.... and believe me.... I didn't think any other bar would make me part with my London.
-
Why not plain silver? Looks cool on Brandon's.
-
What a price? That makes it the most expensive stem out there(compared on FF). Its probably worth it, what am I saying.

Keep in mind this price includes shipping.

The prices of parts are going up. It's bound to happen.
-
I also think it costs more because when you make things like this, you're using one large hunk of aluminum instead of smaller peices. Sort of how you'd need to take one huge piece so that the stem doesn't need a face plate, which could be made out of just a smaller extra piece of aluminum.
Or you could just be paying for the most advanced design to ever come out for a stem in any facet of BMX yet.
-
Thank you for considering us flat riders that still run full offsets! Tim
-
I definatly want one.
As for another color, my vote is either polished, or PURPLE,PURPLE,PURPLE!!!
-

Gold???
-
I'm definitely getting one. You should the same color as that purple haze stem on ff a few weeks ago.
-
I want to say it is s&m that has that nickle plated xlt stem. Im not to shure.? But the color looks awsome! Hey arron, people useing a less wider bars - such as a suelo.or from what ive heard the sickchild bars- wont have problems will they? Thanks man! Tim
-
i think you guys should have added an er to hook and called it the "the hooker".
that things going to be a tramp!! all over everyones bikes ^_^
-
AARRGH! i just sold camamcura stem and bought a bizhouse (traded basically)figuring this wont be out for a looong while. Well...no matter, i gonna have to get me one!...as for color,i vote blue =) , or maybe do like Ed did with the metro and offer custom colors for a little extra cash on pre-orders. ;D
-
Definitely getting one, bars to match! Totally worth the price for the tech! Not to mention shipping's included. Same cost as others, some cases less expensive! Pictures definitely don't do them justice...
-
Any new info on the stem? The August 15th date is approaching..........colors?
-
aaron, if you make me a blue or green one I'll buy one....
silver and black are too cliche... kinda generic colors....
I just don't want to have to buy a silver one then have to wait for my boss to anodize it for me...
-
i agree with tranq...id like a blue one. i guess i could have it anodized myself, or powdered in transparent blue, but it would just be annoying to have to do that. would be cool to get a nice blue one right outta the box ;D
-
Aaron can you please email me your contact info so i can send you some cash for a full off set stem. All i still have in my phone is your old number in michigan. Thanks man. Tim
-
Gold. I don't want to mess up my purple, green, and gold color scheme.
Definetly the most advanced stem out there. Heavily machined, ultra light, and it utilizes a wedge design instead of the traditional crap, I mean clamp, design.
-
I sure looks damn good, But mayb im stupid.. but how do u get your handlebars between it? i cant figure it out.. And how does it clamp the fork?
-
well first you have to get it apart. works much like a rubix cube....take in hand, twist it......turn it....twist it again....turn it.....turn it......twist it...turn it....one finnal twist and turn and you'll have three parts in your hand.
to get it back together is another story.......still working on that.
just kidding.......i think once you have the thing in your hands you'll easily figure it out. it's not that complicated. awsome peice, if i ever need another stem i'd like to look into getting one of these.
-
It's pandora's stem. You don't even want to see the horrors unleashed when you unclamp it. Brandon designed it to be impossible to open so nobody would ever have to worry.
Such a sick design though. I would buy one if I had $'s.
-
I have asked it before... and I will ask again....
Are the threads 8mm METRIC or 5/16" IMPERIAL ???!!!
FFS!!!!
ANSWER ME!

I'm pretty sure it's 5/16" IMPERIAL (uses a 1/4" SAE Allen key I believe) I know for sure it's not metric but I'll let you know if that changes.

definitely need helicoil in it!!!
otherwise we'll hear so many stripped stem complaints. or if it's possible, i'd love to have 1 with helicoil.
IMO, with only 2 bolts to hold everything together, they need to be super tight and the stem body needs to be strong enough not to get stripped with such big clamping power... and it can only be achieved by helicoil.
-
im still using the null stem and dont really want to go back to offset, iv had it a yr and may need replacing soon,so as this new stem is coming , are you going to stop making the null??
thanks
-
I wanna see one in black.

Your opinion will change once you hold/ride one. I can tell you with certainty, it does not need a helicoil, it's held my 200 lbs body up on some serious moves and hasn't budged. If you understood the way the wrap around design amplifies the clamping force around a greater part of the circumference of the clamp bar you would realize that helicoils would improve nothing.

strip-resistance?
i completely understand that the design is very clever and yes, the wrap around is improving the clamp power, but my main concern is on the threads inside the 'hook'. after all, those 2 bolts are responsible for holding the whole business together. bolts are steel but the body is alloy. why not add some helicoils, at least for 'just in case'...
i'm waiting mine though :)
-
I won't say it's impossible to strip. If one cross-threads or really over tightens the bolts it could happen. However, most stems use only two bolts to clamp the stem to the stear tube of the fork and this has become the standard because it has proven to be effective. I'm normally quite cautious while tightening my stem bolts for obvious reasons but, Aaron encouraged me to tighten it real good so I went quite a bit tighter than I have in the past and still no stripping. Aaron could explain the technical aspects much better than me but, I'm confident that it will prove to be at least as strong/strip resistant as any other stem on the market if not better.
-
Aaron, can you chime in and give an update on stem production? Early September maybe?
-
The release date is set for Aug. 15th.
October 15 is approaching.
That's 2 full months of delay after pre-ordering one.

IDK, just saying it's getting ridiculous.

Yeah Aaron's pretty frustrated too, but companies are often at the mercy of the manufactures in this business. I talked to him a couple of days ago and he said that they were either at the anodizer or en-route in the mail as we spoke, and if they were at the anodizer it shouldn't take more than a week. Hold tight, it should be really soon now.
We both sincerely appologize for the delay.
-
they're busy stealing your ideeaaaaaa
-
that's good that they will be available soon. it's been hard for us, but likely infinitely more nerve racking for Aaron. i can't wait to check it out!

Tonight I found a picture of a fixed gear stuntbike sporting a gold Hook stem:

I just spotted this pic, looks like the Sequence Hook stem is back in production!
-

Where can we find info on these and order? Seems like everything is through FB now, which I stay away from.

Just got mine on Flatland Fuel.

The Hook stems (http://www.global-flat.com/parts/part/2233) are back. Now available in 26mm or 33mm.
-
Very cool, I'm considering trying one of these. One problem I have with all stems I've tried is that no matter how tight I tighten the part that clamps the bar, the bars will always shift ever so slightly forward or backward a tiny bit when crashing hard in just the right way. Like, for example, landing the bars hard onto the ground in a hitchhiker position. I'm not surprised this happens considering the forces/physics applied, I just find it frustrating because even a tiny change is quite noticeable to me.
-
I use the original hook stem and I have to say, the bars never move...
I don't crash on the bars often though.

you ever take a nail file to the clamping surface of your stem? It'll make the surface grippier.
-
Thanks mambocowboy I may give that a try. I had thought about doing something like this, essentially 'knurling' the inside surface but hadn't really thought about how best to do it. A bit of scratching up the surface with a file without removing too much material might just do the job. I have a couple of old stems I don't use anymore, I'll try it on one of those first.
👍

Been working well for me on a bunch of stems.
