My first ride was a Mongoose Stylist 88.Brother of th Mongoose Decade. It was blue w/5spoke mags.I had this bike for over 10years.It went through a lot of parts.48hp wheels, dozen pegs, all the famous bars of the 90s,brakes and gt bashguard(witch i bent slightly with the frame!)yeah,i could not believe it.This bike may have been the lower model of mongoose but it took abuse!!
-
I'm actually riding my first real bike right now.Every bike before that was a walmart bike
-
Wow.
Aside from the typical department store junk, this was my first "real" bike.
I cannot believe I actually found a picture of one, but here it is....

A mid 80's Bianchi BMX. I got it as a present for graduating grade 8. Araya 7x 32 spoke rims. Chromoly frame. Pretty sure mine had some 3 piece alloy shimano cranks with shimano DX pedals though. By the time I was done with it it had skyway tuff wheels on it, a Nippon Dia-Compe brake up front and Redline 4 piece bars. Man that bike was terrible :) The bottom bracket was so low to the ground the pedal would hit the ground with very little lean.

2003 haro f3 for me

I finallllly found it. Had to just go alphabetically through the museum until I saw a brand that sounded familiar:
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/schwinn/4052 (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/schwinn/4052)
Basically, it was terrible but that was the same colour and everything as my first "real" bike. I'd had a cobbled together BMX or two before that one but they were no-name, spraypainted frames with sketchy parts. Then, after the mighty Schwinn, I finally got some real real bikes- a couple of Trickstars and eventually I settled on a string of GT Pro Performers.
-
And yes, I bought it new. I'm older than dirt.
-
Funny how some of you guys have to go to bmxmuseum to find your first rides...
-
My first 'Freestyle' bike was a 1986 GT Performer in GT Blue... one of my first upgrades  was to swap out the mags for ACS Z-Rims w/ a freecoaster... at least the freecoaster was a step in the right direction... ;D

yep,. that thing sucked balls in every possible way. I hated that bike so much.
-
1985 Redline RL-20. "Hazard Yellow". Coaster brake...but ditched the mags/coaster as soon as the Peregrine 48's came out. Also upgraded to the Forklifters(first 4-piece bars) when they came out.
I really liked that bike, other than the mags/bars. I wanted to add that looking back, I think this bike was well ahead of the times. Notice there is no standing platform, it had tapered and caped stays, tapered forks, and if I remember correctly, had a 75 degree head tube angle.
I didn't have to look in the museum for mine. ^_^ Redline 400 series cranks, ACS55 stem/pro rotor, Hutch Trick Top Seat, fluted seat post...this is a couple of years after I first got it.
Landing a Decade.

how come so many of the bikes on there have no front pegs?
-
how come so many of the bikes on there have no front pegs?
Many bikes back then had pegs on the forks, rather than the axles. Also, some people didn't run them on certain sides, because they got in the way of certain tricks like Miami Hoppers.

gt performer 97 , oh man just remember it hurts my back
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gt_bicycles/26183 (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gt_bicycles/26183)
i still have it ... borrowed to a friend :P

'87 Mongoose Decade..my first real trick bike.
I went through all the phases with this thing..chrome with pink grip tape, frame standers, mags with no pegs, you name it.
It cracked at the seat post tube, so they upgraded it to an 88'. which mandated they change the stem, brakes, rotor, etc. it was the best warranty deal I ever got!

And not one person said thank you Mom/Dad in this thread....
Just sayin

If my parents had an account on here I think you'd be well aware of it by now. 3 Perry's on here starting sh*t? Whoooboy.
-
I had a 1987 GT Performer in white with pink grip tape. Later on, I inherited my brother's Hutch Windstyler. That bike was a piece of crap, it had fork pegs welded on, yet I still did hang 5's and double whiplashes on it
-
I had a CW California Flyer, it was a cheap bike made out of cheap steel, but it had big, comfortable back pegs that were waaaaay ahead of their time. Was a pretty nice looking ride, too.
-
Dyno VFR complete in chrome.......I broke it after about 7 years, snapped the TT off at the ST weld.
-
well if I don't count my sisters Huffy Prairie Cruiser with banana seat that I got as a hand-me-down as my first bike (which I later spray painted black), then I had a Huffy Chrome K-Mart Special. My first real freestyle bike was a Jetta Breakdancer. And it actually came with skyway 6-spoke mags, rotor, frame with built in framestander, double crossbar handle bars and build in theads in the fork for high or low mount fork stands. It was bright green including green tires.
I had that for 4 years and by the time I was done with it the only thing stock was the frame/fork.
-
My first bike was a diamondback joker. Thing weighed like 40 lbs. But, it had front and back brakes as well as a gyro so it worked for a while.
-
I remember the Diamondback freestyle bikes being the heaviest I'd ever encountered at the time. This was before the '90s bloat bikes obviously.

-
i feel so young too, mine was a wtp pony ;D
-
Candy red Haro 540 Air. Heavy as a tank, but I could do squeakers and funky chickens on it. :D
-
Team Murray Thunder-something or other (I think?) back in '82 ish that I inherited from my sister... followed by a San Jose flea market special Mongoose Californian knock off bike.
-
94 Mongoose Villain... not a bad beginners bike other than the fact that the brakes were worthless.
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mongoose/20647 (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mongoose/20647)
Not mine... you get the picture.
-

Wow that was the first BMX i ever got too! i got mine for 50 bucks in 96 from my bros best friend

Here's my Jetta BreakDancer and I'm holding the 1986 August Issue of Freestylin' Magazine. Which taught me the backwards infinity roll.

I just got the bike from the bike shop and the reflectors and tags are still on it. No pegs at this moment.. I think I needed to save a little more money or I needed to install them.
Check out those shorts LOL! and I'm wearing my soccer turf shoes? Oh well I was a legit baller. That was in Maine and it was all dirt everywhere so I would session in the garage or ride to some tennis courts at the high school.
-
Mine was a Halfords Turbo, I bought it in '83.
I don't have to thank my folks, they told me that at 13 years old I was too old to ride 'a kid's bike'... So I cleaned windows, cleaned cars, mowed lawns, had two paper rounds... Took me 6 months to save for that sucka.
Now I'm 39 and get paid to ride kid's bikes. That's a real kick in the teeth for my folks :D

I rode a 06 Next bike from Wal-E-World, and a DK eight pack when I first started riding flatland, and I rode street for six years on an old Diamond back my dad gave me when I was like 10.
-
;D the one that will forever hold my heart!I learned so many tricks on it and it was fully tricked out... I would later sell it.
-
My first bike was an 86' Panasonic racing bike. Still have the frame, but my brother cobbed a bunch of parts off of it :(. I was planning on restoring it, but I don't have the parts to do it.
-
My first bike was a 04 hoffman condor. Still riding the frame and cranks but thats it!!
-
A friend of mine had this Purple Torker twin top tube frame w/a standing platform that looked like a grinder. The frame was mad long too.But the rarest frame i ever seen was a MCS that had double chainstay tubes and the top n bottom tube made this connection like a Hutch trick star.Weird and it was chrome.
-
2003 haro f3 for me
2007 (year old model at the time) haro f2! haha piece of JUNK. i took the seat off and masking-taped a block of foam over the seat tube so i can do street stuff minus the 2+lb. seat/seatpost and NOT get r*ped in the *ss by the tubing...took the pegs off and even with the front brake gone it's still like 28 lbs.
my first flatland specific bike is a mix of parts from FF and from misterwhite. grand total of about $710 including tax and shipping and everything. i think around $50 more than an a-damn lt...
-
hush -i am riding my first bike still too -although almost all the parts have been switched out over the years -mine is a dyno 89 pro compe ;)
-
But the rarest frame i ever seen was a MCS that had double chainstay tubes and the top n bottom tube made this connection like a Hutch trick star.Weird and it was chrome.
MCS Styler. Rare...because it was a POS. I knew someone who had one...and it was just put together and rode aweful. Never mind looking horrible.
-
even worse is I used to ride with a guy who was on the MCS Freestyle team... He had to ride the styler...
-Roy
-
First bike ever was a POS Montgomery Ward bike with solid rubber tires in like 1983-84.
The frame broke within a short time so my dad got a used Haro Master. White with white mags. I think a friend of his was hard up for money and had to sell his kids bike. That was '83 or '84 so I was just a little sh!t. 6 or 7 years old. I couldn't do anything on that bike and I had no business having it but...I'm glad I did.
-
Yeah, that was the name MCS styler.Im sure this guy still has it.
