The wait is over. Happy Birthday Ruben.

I still have a VHS tape of the 1988 AFA Masters in Wayne, NJ. Ruben absolutely killed it that day. So smooth. Killer style. Happy Birthday!
-
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing

Ruben was the first person I ever saw riding in person(not in magazines) back in 1985. He was killin' it then, and he kills it every weekend at the OG with us still. One of those versatile riders who killed it at AFA comps in the 80's, Meet the Street comps in the 90's blah, blah, blah.

that bounce in the last link was tha sh*t!. Great edit.

good video thanks Rad Dad and Happy B-Day Ruben. I met Ruben back in the old AFA days and was great guy to ride with and to learn from. Ruben made in one the dorken in york videos with that Austin AFA Master contest ruin. Back in those days the riders did it all,,ramps, street, flatland.,,,,thats what we did. I even did skateboarding rideing on 10 foot halfpipes or rideing street downtown Houston.
-
Nice Ruben. It's good to see you still blazing. This has got me thinking I should head out to the trails.
-
I like how Rueben still does "FREESTYLE" which means he does it all and is good in every discipline. Always has been. Happy Birthday!
-
I remember reading Freestylin' in junior high and seeing photos of Ruben in full on Dyno gear tearing up the AFA circuit... Very inspirational seeing him progressing his riding to this day. Does his brother Robert still ride at all?

Robert does indeed still ride. I think he might still do shows aswell.
Both were huge inspirations to me.

really dope vid. Ruben's been around for sooooo long, its awesome to see him still riding flat, and pulling great links : )
-
Hey correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't ruben partly responsible for designing/conceptualising the GT SHOW frame which spawned the whole short toptube development in flatland bikes......? ;D
-
Yeah you are correct. I don't know excatly how many people were involved with the project but Ruben was one of the leaders in the creation of the GT Show.
-
I'm so stoked on this, Ruben's been riding and totally flowing forever; it's so great to see him recognized and get some current riding filmed. I think the last big video part I've seen of him was back on those Revenge videos. Ruben is still riding so brilliantly, just total inspiration from The King
-
Heh, I remember watching Ruben when he seemed barely big enough to see over his bars! (only a slight exaggeration).
AWESOME!
-
I went over to "The Kings" Castle and hooked him up with "The King of Freestyle" DVD. It includes
a modified version of the Web Edit plus
More footage from Empire BMX, 9th Street and Rubens personal riding spots.
As a bonus I threw in the video that sparked this project. 120 Psi and Rolling. He was compleatly stoked on how everything turned out. I will take request if you want a pieace of this history. I will make a copy apon request. I will place a pay pal link on bmx freestyler soon. Run Time is about 16 minutes.
Keep on Riding!
