Title: Side Glides...who can do them?
Post by: Mark McGrade on November 28, 2009, 12:50:48 AM
I used to love doing these years ago but with my new bike (OG Balance) the bars don't even come close to the seat when turned so I can't hold it.
Can anybody do them and if so what kind of bars, seat & seatpost are you using?
I really hate getting rid of my bars because they are pretty nice so I'm hoping a longer pivotal seat exists.

go to that other mailorder shop(danscomp, sorry pat :( ) and get one of these, flip it around so the seats closer to the bars...

or flip your railed guts around, should help you get a little closer without buying a new seatpost..

I used to do them!

Hell I will have to try one tomorrow, but either I will have the same problem you have, or have only 1/2 of my thumb and pointer finger on the grip!

Does anyone know what the name of the variation that Jones used to do?  Wasn't it called a "land speeder"?

I used to do them BITD....and a couple of months ago I decided to re-learn them.  I run a St. Martin laid back post(I believe that is what it is...got it second hand), and the bars and seat didn't come anywhere near close, so I turned the seatpost around backwards and moved my seat up on the rails, so I was succesful in re-learning them.  Unfortunately, this set-up felt awful for other tricks like hang-fives etc.   But yeah, any laid back post turned around should do the trick...if you can deal with the awful feel for other tricks.

And yes, one of my old combos was elbow glide to forward side glide, to steam to chicken.  Really fun when it was done at a good speed.

Oh, also...check out Will Reed's side-glide combos.  Insane.  The man can do every variation imaginable.  Check some of his footage in the online battles(master class) to get an idea of what I'm talking about.  Not sure what his set-up is though...just know it's London Bikes.

Just checked out his video, looks like he does have a longer seat and what appears to be some sort of Bar ends.

I can do em rolling backward. Heartbreaker bars, Intac post, and S&M Thin seat pushed all the way forward.

I run fairly wide bars too...at 25 inches.  This, and the laid back post turned backwards did the trick.

His last name is Redd not Reed! :P

Ahh, the landspeeder. Craig LePage(sp?) was a master at that trick. A forward side glide leaned so far forward that the back peg would scrape the ground... Man, you have to have a flexible spine for that! Wow, I haven't thought of that one in a while.

Ahh, the land speeder. That was a cool one... that and the backwards karl kruiser Darren Pelio used to do where he'd scrape his grip and brake lever on the ground were sweet.

Did he ride for Haro?  I don't remember him riding for Haro...just Skyway.  Man, Skyway had an awesome team then...Aaron Dull, Kevin Jones...Matt Hoffman.

I think Aaron doesn't get enough credit for the stuff he came up with, and how much he helped flat progress.
