bro, think about it. it is totally possible. start the treadmill, crank a bit to get balance, then pop it up. its just like in a parking lot, but the momentum never ends... an infinity roll if you will.

Not... really... to be honest. At all.

You wont have ANY momentum if you are on the bike on the treadmill. You arn't actually moving anywhere, just the wheels going round. Think about it.

The wheels have momentum but you dont.

ive done nose-wheelies with a sk8board on a treadmill b4, and worked out great. never thought of trying hang-5s on one tho. i MUST try it!!! youd have to have the treadmill totally LEVEL tho to do it or u would just end up rolling backwards off of it. maybe even have it tilted slightly forward!?

those are my famous "mystery bars". i traded this one guy my Hiros for these, and still love them. they have upsweep, backsweep and fluting inside. if anyone would like to take a guess i'd be very interested to find out what they are my da*n self

man this bike is very nice! i really like the stripe on your tires! but maybe the nankai's driver will not like the white paint. i also painted mine but i only painted the shell of it so the paint won't get into the hub.. post a pic later when it's finished!

Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: dojo on March 24, 2007, 05:33:56 AM
thanks bedbod
i like it too!

since posting the pics, I felt I needed to disclose a bit more about the bike.  there were two issues with the frame worth noting.  the paint was extremely poor in the rear triangle. lots of chips, and a big spot on one of the dropouts with no paint.  also the brake posts were very misaligned. for me, these two things were trivial; i plan on removing the posts and guide, and afterwords powdercoating it; fixing the paint issue. still, not everyone will necessarilly be so laid back about QC issues such as these. My hope is that these issues have already been addressed and future errors minimized.

cheers

Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: Phatman on March 24, 2007, 11:09:08 AM
Dojo, ive just stripped the paint from mine and there is alot of primer/filler on the rear triangle/drop outs but a bit of elbow grease & some wet & dry and its going (gradually) the Tubes just have a few slight imperfections which might explain the premature loss of paint.

PS: Thats a Coalition post.

ha ha, nope. I do have 4 bike projects but most of them are missing parts. that's what you like to do when you get old, your back hurts, and you can't ride as hard as you did in your good years (when I would ride 4-7 hours everyday during the week).

anyway TJ, that's a pimp ride. it would look even nicerer with nice 25 sprocket.

yeah the down town is a so amazing and nice frame, i find him no defaut . . he just could be lighter but he's not recent as the wells or the class X for example.
if you buy one you won't be deceived !

Would a class X be suitable for a little street riding as well as flatland?

i've sprayed my wells, taken off my brake, put on the new st martin 08 champagne forks and replaced my seat post after it snapped.

for german cyclist.

yeah the down town is a so amazing and nice frame, i find him no defaut . . he just could be lighter but he's not recent as the wells or the class X for example.
if you buy one you won't be deceived !

a more recent photo: and now i've a khe watanabe seat and in less than two days a 20T st martin sprocket.

that looks nice.

Sorry man, I cant trade mine, it has just too much sentimental value.  But that bike looks fine!

thanks!
Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: stinky on July 14, 2007, 06:22:13 AM
A maybe it is just how low the frame is. Makes the front look really tall.
Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: Gensanity on July 14, 2007, 04:10:51 PM
I did add a couple of extra spacers in there to make it as tall as possible.
I could remove them later on but it feels allright for now.

Rully, I'm not sure exactly what points you would measure from, but I guess you could just use a ruler or tape measure and measure your ht from end to end???

why do you want to know?

sorry but these new generation of st. martin frames are some of the ugliest frames I've ever seen--design and function wise.

the two-part top tube on the wells frame doesn't even make sense.... it doesn't serve any purpose. the end effect is like a straight tube anyway.

the oversized extra wide open front diamond in class X is also sensless and so are the prolongued rear dropouts in a "classid double diamond design frame"...

I use to be a fan of st. martin....
Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: kabirun on August 29, 2007, 07:00:32 AM
Look at all that room under the downtube(s)!...i'd love one of these frames. And the top tube(s) is/are low enough..it wouldn't matter if it was straight!!

The class X has very little room under the downtube though....i'd still ride it though!!!

that's precisely my point, the room under the downtube for the wells is way overdone, whereas for the class x, there isnt' room at all.

flatlanders should all unite and make up ONE frame (like skateboards and street bikes) and just quit complaining.  so st. martin makes very unique designs--at least they won't be accused of copying other frames.  when you look at old posts of any kind of bike, someone is complaining about why they don't like it or it looks to much like so and so's frame.  flatlanders are a bunch of whiners.

baaah I can't decide anymore about bars

I'm really diggin th t4's and am really leaning towards those as I think they would look great on the class X

but in the back of my mind I really want to try the khe swissmiss bars.  I know some of you think they may look weird on the class x but I think the contrasts in designs may actually be a good combo.. + I could save a bit of weight there...  but they do have a lil backsweep and I don't know if I would be down with that after getting so used to 0 sweep.  But maybe.

argh.... t4's... swissmisss.....t4's.. swissmisss.

I don't know.. In my head they both look good.  Anyone have a class x and either of these bars so I could see a pic hrmmm?

doubt it.

Just go with the T4's, I think I just bent my swissmiss bars and it's only been a month and a few weeks since I had them.

I like the ClassX so far, Yesterday I rode with it first time @ a jam.
It takes a while to get used to the HTA witch is 1º less compared to my Sinus.
There is no brakecable since I putted it together in a rush and the rear tire... the whole rear wheel is temporary.
The handlebars are the 2008 version of the Ange.

You could run your front wheel with less offset to reduce that feeling.

ehh sandblasting takes mounts off??
I thought those would just have to be cut off somehow and then smoothed down.

i'll post a sunshine pic tommorrow. Peace.

I was going to wait for a new batch of t4's to come in but I liked your bars so much in this pic I went ahead and got me some tony bars too.  They look nice with the class x.  Thanks for the inspiration. Also got some green pegs for back.  Will post pics later after my black ribcage finally arrives.
....

Jim, how did you remove the mounts, just a dremel?  And then sand it down smooth?
Wanting to do this too..

i sandblasted this baby today and removed all the brake weldments. should have new paint this weekend, so there may be one final pic of this one, then i'll stop with the pics :)

i had access to a proper set of professional detail tools. i chopped off the bulk of the mounts, then used a robo file to trim it down close, then a jitterbug with 60g. i ended up finishing it with 180g i think, then scotchbrite. the sugarblasting made the finish consistant. it turned out perfectly. i was real happy with the result.

Jay, not sure if you got what i meant, because im pretty sure the london mod is a cable stop. The Class X has 3 cable stops down near the seat tube which i think is an awesome idea. But if it where to have 2 cable guides slightly further up the top tube so you could keep the lower cables out of the way? Hope that explains it abit better.

I'm thinking about painting my frame.
Any color suggestions?

I was thinking green, like the og kun fu green.  I love that color.
Maybe add some subtle purple flakes into it?

I don't know.  I've asked around but for some reason auto shops up here will not paint bicycles, so it is something I'm prob going to have to do myself.  :/

fresh build, but it looks almost like sitting and pedaling would not be possible...

lol Jim about 99% of street bikes you can't sit and pedal, shouldn't be that weird  ^_^
Title: Re: Post your St. martin
Post by: the beard on September 21, 2009, 12:19:09 AM
they DO sit and pedal sometimes, street frames have much higher top tubes, all things equal, a flat frame slammed sits much lower. just sayin...
I had to raise mine a couple inches to keep from kicking my own butt
I'm not meaning to criticize, I like the bike but just curious. I guess the bar- to seat-height difference is really, really big.

Man St Marti's sure do look good, but the fact they have an ass like a "top model" and would probably crumble under my 190lbs ass..blah blah rambles..

Nice ride jazzy!

Im bout 190 lbs myself snoop. Ive been riding a 23.5lb Wells 2 for almost a year now and have had no problem with my St Martin. For real dude, St Martin has gotten a bad rep as the result of a couple of faulty parts which every bike company makes. Its all gooooooood

Happy Place II, 18.8" TT (i think)
Tanaka LT fork
St. Martin Ecoflat cranks
Odyssey Frequency 1.75 tires
KHE Swiss Miss bars
KHE Watanabe seat
KHE Geisha hub

now i just need me a nice white chain, whitewall tires and smaller, white pedals and it'll be perfect in my opinion.

How tall are you Wong? And which feels better, the 18.5 gaia or the 18.2 eiffel?

please, it's kelvin. only when i'm back in the army camp, serving my reservist am i then addressed as Wong.

162cm - by my nation's height statistics, i'm considered a miget...but that sure didn't stop them from conscripting me into regular military service, them arseholes .

www.global-flat.com/smf/index.php?topic=28013.0 (http://www.global-flat.com/smf/index.php?topic=28013.0)

even though it's stated that the steertube angle is similar for both frames(74.7), could be due to my setup, the gaia has a mellower steer angle - which i prefer. the 0.3" difference in t.t length didn't really alter the feel to me. heavier riders (80-90kg-ish) have test-rode my gaia, they said they could feel the seat / tt compress/flex downwards when they sat down on it; i'm around 70kg, i don't feel it flexing downwards when i'm riding it though.

i've not tried whoppers and rollaids on the gaia yet, don't plan to do so as i ain't the smoothest rider yet at those tricks and wouldn't recommend it to anyone - that's what my eiffel is for.
