Title: aluminium Peregrine Q bars? n homeless player update
Post by: K.Wong on July 14, 2009, 04:20:13 PM
i came across a set of aluminium bars with over-sized tubing which looked like the chrome-moly version of the famous Q bars. it had the words 'peregrine' silkscreen on both sides of the upraisers, gold coloured end caps on both the clamp tube and grip tubes.

1) did peregrine release a alum. version of their Q bars? i vaguely remember an advert on bmxPLUS waaay back annoucing it. sorry no pixs on my end, the store owner did not allow me to take pictures. please help o' wise and ancient ones...LOL

HOMELESS PLAYER update

decided not to purchase the frame as :

1)the shop owner did not have the matching forks,
2)wouldn't give further discount,
3)paint on the frame was peeling on certain areas due to rust,
4)had a crappy attitude :
when i requested to have a closer look and requested his aid in searching for the matching forks (he wanted me to pay a deposit for the frame before taking it down from the top of the shelf <i refused, stating that i needed to see before buying as it was covered in a thick coat of dust>, made snide remarks about me wasting his time while searching for the matching forks)

The "X-Lite" aluminum bars came out around 1998 when Peregrine ended.

They were available in 6" and 8" sizes but there not really flatland bars.

out~riding, you may be mistaken.
this is the x-lite bars:

I have attached a picture of the aluminum pro 2 q bars on my bike, the height is 8.46" with
zero upsweep and I don't know what is the backsweep but I don't think it's more than 6.

I thought those were the ones K.Wong was talking about.

Those ones must be from the same period, they have the same gold caps.

I was looking through some old magazines and those aluminum pro 2 bars don't show up anywhere.

These bars are really rare, my brother is 10 years older than me, I don't know when or how he got them, he also doesn't remember. i assume it was in the 90's.
Anyway, i searched "peregrine pro II alloy" on google and I found that (Read the comments under the pictures):

Apparently some more people have them.

ya, they are rare, I presume that they must have been the last part that Peregrine made before closing down.
They use the same gold caps as the X-Lite bars and those were made in 1998.

I think that your right, could be the last thing they made.

Do you know why peregrine was closed?

I remember that everyone liked their hubs, rims and bars because they were good quality.

I think that they could do well in todays flatland scene, wouldn't you think that?

I don't know what happened.

I searched online and found out that Peregrine was a registered trademark of Teel Inc. from New Jersey.

The parts were made by Anlun.
