HAH. Thanks a lot!! Honestly, I wasnīt even going to the worlds after the medals. I just wanted to pull the perverted rolaid on as high speed as I could without a mistake. Thanks for understanding my weird way of looking at the comps nowdays.

Hi and thanks for all the support through the years. Right now the situation is following. For 2010 I got to make a big decision if I want to continue riding at pro level or not.
My sponsors made me pretty clear late last year that this should be my last year. So, I had to find a full time job really quick and havenīt practiced almost at all ever since. Before the worlds I didnīt practice properly since Monaco Ninja Spin. Due to my wrist and too much work. I have 2 jobs at the moment besides my pro riding thing. And either way, I ride and take it serious again or I donīt ride serious any more and I work full time because my free days for comps should end 2010 as well. I am having too many of them already.

So, I need to ask your opinion at this stage (because I would like to continue riding at this level and come up with new tricks) if you want to see me getting back in shape in terms of competing, shows and video parts and new tricks?

If your answer is yes, please post it here and if no please post it here as well. Just please, do not be an asshole about this. I made my mistakes and apologizies. In my opinion I have bleed enough for flatland. So if you think this is stupid, you can stay quiet, thank you.

I donīt mind working full time, at least it is getting my feet back on the surface where I like to be with my bike. Right now I just feel very motivated for riding again and would like to see where I can take it.
Thanks for understanding.

Do it while you can!  If you have the means to support yourself, and no other obligations to attend to...DO IT.  We all know you have the skills to win contests if you can put in the time on your bike.  Your an inspiration to many on here, and I think the majority would love to see you ride at your highest level!

I cant speak for the rest of the flatland world...But..The amount of dedication..and..THE MOVEMENT you have created for flatland can not just be left in this state of place. Would love nothing more then to see you develop..and re devlop and define new styles and "trends."The time period of which yourself,Stephen Cerra,& Nathan Penonzek destroying your quamens is very near and dear to me. I didnt grow up to Chase and Kevin..I grew up to Martti and Nathan. And for u to..disappear from the scene ala there style would be devastating in this current form of flatland.Wether we know it or not..Flatland is not making the push anymore..It is the push, this years contest scene proves that.
Fast forward to the impulsivity time period: And i cant believe the state of mind you had puttin yourself into...Michael Phelps doesnt even compare to the connection of that yin and yang you and Viki demonstrated. Stay focused Martti, as your inspiration is that of somewhat a "Flatland Ambassador".. I know its tuff to..ride and not have the level of dedication in it you want. But time off..Is good for the mind..and the soul..Makes you find things/places you dont want to be a part of or involved with. Look at Corey Stratychuk, he has found new life..in being secluded.New love..by being "comfortable." The best thing for you..is to truly take a step back, view the scenerey/people/sponsors/government/and family around you. Rejoice in new found endevours, and just never give up on ur number one outlook from day one, to be the best..and beat the rest at anything and everything possible.

You are a living embodiment of bmx. You are an institution. I think what I'm trying to say is, when people go, "Who's going to die on their bike?", you are one of few the names that come up.

Please stay on the scene, and continue raising the bar. Find new sponsors if you have to. I constantly ask myself if this is something I'm going to be able to do my whole life, not only for fun, but competitively. You doing this would prove that possible.

I can see how its probably not hard to get burnt out from the whole 'contest scene'.  But it seems like you've enjoyed yourself at Ninja Spin, and the Worlds...Both of which you placed very well, so I'd say, if you're having fun with it, keep it up...Our bodies will only let us ride bikes for so long before the aches and pains really start setting in, I say take advantage of the time you're given!

PS.  Come to Voodoo!!!

I wouldnt honestly expect anybody on here to say you should quit. So, just saying"Yes, keep riding" doesnt seem to carry much juice. You have the skills and ability to do anything you could possibly imagine on a bike. I cant imagine any trick ever "Kicking your ass". Plus you have proven that you have a thought process when it comes to originality and making the impossible possible that is second to nobody. There are alot of awesome pros out now. There are also a few that are still dropping bombs to make people say, "Where the Hell did he think that up" but very few have impacted flatland the way you have. We all used to call you "Magic Tricks" LOL because the tricks you came up with were simply incredible. Everybody watches all the top pros because they are just that and we all like to see awesome riding being laid down. But you are the one everybody HAS to see when they get to a contest because you always have such crazy new original stuff. When you get that thought process back again, its gonna be truly amazing. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Hopefully its to keep riding though.

Thanks for all of you pushing me!! It is important! The thing is that I am super motivated to come up with new tricks. I just got to find myself some time to make them real. Thatīs why I donīt mind telling every new rider out there of my new tricks because right now I absolutely donīt have time to make them real. I just want to see my ideas come real.
I need to collect as many answers from here in order to give a proof to my sponsors to see that there is lot of people supporting my back. I got to talk to my sponsors in september for 2010. So until that, I hope to receive many yes yes for me.

Because of my situation at work, finance etc. I wonīt make it to Voodoo jam.

I am off to Japan now to represent my styles. As one of my good friends told me yesterday: "kickflip the sh*t out of them all" hahahha. I do it as instructed.

Martti are you sponsored by Adidas?

Well if so...Mark Gonzales is on there, he is an Original Skateboarder, I am sure they will never cut him. (if they read this, don't they dare cut the Gonz, the skateboard community will backlash, we are proud of him on Adidas and not on NIKE).

Hell I'll write to Adidas if need be, they can't cut an Original such as yourself..N

GO MARTTI! I remember in person seeing you do a halfhiker kickflip back in like 98/99 in St Pete FLA USA just messing around with Andrew Faris.  It was unbelievable!  Most riders can imagine much more than they can perform but you are one of the few that can bring those ideas to fruition.  Keep on keepin on!

If Redbull and Adidas cannot afford to shoot a little cash towards one of the most important flatlanders of the last 15 years, then maybe they could skim a little money off the top of their fashion show/magazine advertisement promotions in Europe and give you .0001% of the difference to pay your living expenses for five years.

For how many double page spreads for Adidas I see in magazines all over, and for how much free Redbull they love to give out, I'm finding it very hard to understand how one of the most widely recognized flatlanders can be having trouble "convincing" these types of companies that they're worth it.

Don't they see that pretty much every kid in europe is sporting Superstars tweaked the f*ck out on caffeine and sugar?  -_-

i'll chip in as well...when i first got into flatland, say, almost a decade ago, it was martti kuoppa who was one of the riders i was reading and hearing about, cutting the edge and innovating new approaches in flatland and that's one of the motivators that got me into this.  i gotta say, you were a big inspiration back then and you're a huge inspiration now, following your dreams and making ideas a reality.  not to mention, you're one of the most talented riders i've ever seen.  keep on riding...i know i will, even with tendonitis starting to set in, i don't care...i'll ride 'til my limbs fall off.  thank you martti, for being an inspirational pillar of such an awesome lifestyle.

That thread you created to push the riders and promote has also been one of the best things Ive seen here in a while. Ive been supporting kgb since you created it. It just dawned on me. I was so psyched on the thread you started with the kickflips, and pushing people and hooking up riders who may have never received a free part in their life. The amazing part of that whole deal that just occured to me is that you have just started giving out of your own pocket to strangers at a time when you, one of the best ever, is having a hard time convincing his own sponsors he is "Worth it."

You were always incredible to me, but your legend just grew 1000 fold in my eyes. At a time when you could easily become jaded and cynical, (I didnt think the day would ever come that Martti Kuoppa would have to prove his self-worth to anyone) you start probably the most generous offer of any flatland company out.

You are and always will be "The Man."

I didnt mean proving anything to us. You are absolutely correct, he has NOTHING to prove in my eyes. I was referring to him having to prove to his sponsors that he is worth it still. Which is what he said he is being forced to do. Even to the point of taking pages from this thread to them to show. Martti's legacy is set in stone. I dont believe its anywhere near completed yet, however, and if his sponsors dont see that, then they are the ones who dont "Get It."

Martti, here are my 2 stories connected with you:
1) When I got into riding almost 7 years ago, I got my hands on a Ride UK Magazine that had your interview and a couple of nice photos. Reading that interview helped me find a dedication to practise a lot. I still have that mag and read it from time to time nowadays.

2)When I was learning hang 5 to halfpacker, I kept watching a vid of you doing this transition over and over.  And then, one day I went riding and pulled it on the first try easily just like you.

So, thanks a lot for the inspiration you gave me and I hope you keep riding at your level for many more years!! Good luck at KOG!!

If there is anyway you can continue riding and competing, I sincerely hope you can. You have been my favourite rider since you popped up all those years ago.  Clearly this is more than a yes or no answer, so I hope your sponsors can see your popularity, enabling you to ride full time instead of having to work full time. All the best Martti. Good luck.

How about you capitalize English since it's a proper f*cking noun and show some respect  instead of picking on people who speak it as a second language?

I believe barring any unforseen circumstances, I'd say a unanimous YES is in order for you to continue riding and progressing at the insane pace that's brought flatland where it is today. Who else these days rides with the patented kickflip style at such a level?

I have 2 new styles in works. High speed brakeless styles (kickflips etc.) and tire sliding tricks. Just making my reservation on those styles here  ^_^

Only problem is that still today, I am not having time to ride. All my comps results this year are without practice.

No-handed blenders   IMPOSSIBLE!!! You need at least one hand to hold the seat.

First pic is Phil Dolan doing a spinning blender, second pic is Sean Peters doing a spinning blender on the pedal.

Dave, c'mon. You're not an idiot! A pedaling death truck and a blender are two different tricks. A blender is a front wheel scuffing trick, and a pedaling death truck is a rear wheel pedaling trick. Both are totally different!

Oh, and I said "no-handed blenders are impossible". Or do you think the tail stays up by magic? Nope, you have to hold the seat.

Anyone referring to pedaling death trucks as blenders doesn't know what he (or she) is talking about! ;D

Martti is known for doing pedaling death trucks. Look what I found on the KGB site:

http://www.kgbflat.com/v2/?page_id=22&category=12&product_id=24 (http://www.kgbflat.com/v2/?page_id=22&category=12&product_id=24)

Runkai freecoaster description:

Runkai Freecoaster

The new Runkai is not like the rumors say the same coaster as the Taska ones or the ones Ares produces. It s a new concept of freecoaster with a new system called freeway. It has been tested by Martti Kuoppa and Viki Gomez for over 6 months and the hub was working perfect, never settings problems and the axle was still strong !!! The weigth is just 500 grms and it comes with a 9t driver !
Available in black and silver color ! It has a big gap made inside that gives a perfect function of the hub, no more moving pedals in the middle of a back wheel combo ! On top, the axle last longer than any other freecoaster ! Tested by the most crazy pedaling deathtrucks from Martti ! So , it has passed the test !

Even Viki and Martti know that the pedaling thingy is called a pedaling death truck! :P

Martti, you sicko! :P     Can't wait to see your new stuff!

Did you guys know that I named the "blender" a spinning unicycle in the first place (1999) when I learnīt it...? Sometime after Mark Losey took a picture of it and after that specific picture was on Ride BMX and it was named the Blender, by Losey.
Iīve seen a a guy who has a tattoo of this picture on his left arm, if I remember correctly the rider is from Ohio. (does anyone have a picture of this tattoo/rider?) I would like to get that picture again since it got lost somewhere.

-2008 Masters - High speed decade after my bad run?

-2009 Ninja spin - High speed decade?

-2009 Worlds - Quarter pipe to high speed decade?

-2009 KOG practice (day before the comp) high speed steam roller to kickflip bunnyhop to crackpacker?

-Any pitcures where I pose with people/you at the comps?

If you have some of these things please let me know. I really need that footage now since I am preparing everything for next year... Thanks so much for support!

sh*t son, i didnt know if you knew or not. regardless of whats official, some people call that a blender (cuz of losey apparently), thats what PMA! seemed to be referring to, i only tried to clarify for ya.

and i have seen people hook the seat in their lap and do no-handed halfpackers, so if you hook the seat or wedge it under your ass i bet no handed blenders are surely possible! that was my logic to say what i said. its like sayin no handed hikers are impossible cuz the bars will hit the ground. ;D

Martti, I have loved your riding for as long as I can remember.  I still watch Moments on a regular basis and of course your riding in Background...amazing.  The answer is a resounding YES.  I can't imagine the world of Flatland without you.

You have nothing left to prove as far as contests go.  We all know that when you set your mind to it, you can do anything.  I just want to see you ride, have fun, be creative and show us some more bangers that will leave us all shaking our heads.

Maybe you can convince the contest organizers to bring back the "Best Trick" category as this would inspire all pro riders to go for the tricks that are new and original.  Even if they are not quite dialed in yet, we all know that seeing new tricks busted in a contest setting is about as exciting as it gets.

Keep doing your thing.  We will always love you and support you so tell your sponsors to get on board for 2010.

I still want to get with you to film, ha ha.  How long ago did we talk about that?  Anyway, much love.

Eric,
thanks for your support as well!!! Yes, my greedy days with comps are over and I realize many things outside the bubble nowdays.
I am out here to do positive things for flatland and yes, I will keep doing my thing no matter what.
I am just finding the best way for myself to continue contributing into flatland.

I have made my decision and it is to give everything back to flatland that flatland gave to me. I truly mean everything...
