Some basic rules:
1)I announce the first battle between 2 riders. From the moment there is a 5 day limit for those two riders to film and post your video in your class thread.
2)The video can be edited or unedited, but must be maximum 1minute long.
3)The run can consist of combos or just tricks, but if edited, they should be with ride ins and outs.
4)For each battle your 1min run must be different.
5)It is forbidden to use old, before filmed videos.
New rules about the video lenght.
1)A subjective point, but I can "allow" the rider to finish his combo and do the ride out if it goes just <10 seconds more.
2)So then there is a question, which combo can be longer?
- The combo which is started not later than 45th second.
3) It is hard to tell, if the run is too long, because, it can really contain small tricks in the beggining and the long one combo is pressed in the end, to gain extra time. That will be not allowed too.
I'll check every video and I'll be critical about the use of extra time!
4)If the video contains title(something meaningful), the video can be longer as the title lenght
5) If the rider can pull a about a 1 minute combo, my judgement on the time allowed will be subjective and slightly positive on allowing using the extra time. However, do not try to surpass the 1:20 limit.
So what is the solution?
- First off, if some rules are disobeyed, I'll ask to correctly repost the video(if only the 5 day period is still active). If not, the rider can be disqualified.
- There is another solution. If you don't want to repost the video, you can still proceed with the battle, but if you surpass the time limit unpermitted, then you'll recieve voting "fines".
For the time amount you overspend, you'll pay with votes.
<5 sec -10% votes
<10 sec -20%
<15 sec -30%
<20 sec -40%
and so on.
6)After both rider videos are posted and the 5day period is over- voting starts. Others watch both videos and vote.
7)Voting is active for 2days. The rider who recieves the most votes in 2days- winner.
8)You can vote just for one rider in a battle just once. Keep in mind it's subjective, but try to be objective a bit. Stick to these principles:
a) bike control
b) originality
c) difficulty
9)As voting has finished, the winner of the battle is announced.
10) The winner countinues to fight in the finals(if they are). The looser fails. (There could be some additional battles later)
11)The next battle starts in the same or next day after the previous battle ends.
12)Remember to check out all of the gruops and vote, because one battle will happen in each class simultaneously
13)Final winners are nominated as begginer, expert or master of the month
14)Some changes into limits or structure can occur.
15)Questions and suggestions in the main battle thread!

Hrm. I dont know if we can validate bumping hellzcat up? Not that he isnt good (those spinning steams kick the sh*t out of what i can do!)....but what defines beginner vs the next class? Is it time riding? tricktionary?

i dont think time riding has anything to do with it. i think tricktionary and level of bike control do. that being said, i think hellzcat is at the higher tier of beginner. so he is in the right class.

Master
Something along the lines of that.

So my year statement is not exactly true. I hope i could compete against either of these guys, but if the intermediate catagory starts, I think I'd stay in beginner?

My thoughts exactly on the decade to hydrant. I like things to be symmetrical, so I've been working on starting link's with a trick and ending them with the same trick. So i've done that link starting as a decade and finishing as a decade...but nothing on film yet. Plenty of time for that :P Also, most of whats in that vid other than the p squeaks and the gturn are new links/tricks in the last 2 weeks.

You know, i didnt want to say anything, but I had just got done watching your video right before this and I thought to myself "why is sarge in expert??". Maybe my opinion of what is 'beginner' and what is 'expert' is different? And, its not that your video or riding was not good, the double hitchiker attempt was freaking awesome.
The fact is, both me and you will get killed in expert every single time. But, watching guys like addisonM doing halflashes to forward steams and good spinning steams.....I know that there are lots of dudes to challenge me in this class....this aint no free cake.
And what determines beginner from expert? At what point is someone promoted? There's not a single trick that I can do that is classified as more than "beginner hard" on the tricks section.

no worries! it is all in fun anyways and is all about pushing each other to ride and to get better! i have been riding for years but there has been times during those years when i only rode 1 day out of 365. i had a five year break in riding due to me being in the army. so for someone who has been riding for 6 months, everyday, 2-3 hours a session, they probably have more tricks down than me, who it took about 2 1/2 years to learn a hitch hiker due to time restraints on my riding. but regardless of what "class" you are in, just ride and have fun.
iriez, i wasn't knocking you on being the wrong class, i was more saying that i am in the wrong class!

I think doing these online battles is great...but there are some obvious kinks to be worked out. Like classifying riders. I know it's hard to do for ondo...especially since some riders ride more during those years than others. I mean, heck...I say i've been riding for 24 years...but it's only been in the last four months that I have been riding flatland again. I rode flat for about 4 years...up until about 1990...then it's been street and ramps ever since. I would put myself in beginner...but then some people would say that I have been riding for 24 years.
So why not have a series of these? Do another online battle in 6 months. I think if we did a second one...then people would better know where they stand, and what class they should compete in. But then we might have people sand bag. Maybe the winner in each class should be made to move up in the next contest? Maybe the last place finisher could be allowed to move down a class...or whatever...so they would feel like competing. I doubt highly that anyone enjoys getting shut down...due to them being in the wrong class. Thoughts anyone?
And Sarge, by no means am I knocking your riding skills...but if you feel like you were in the wrong class, wouldn't it be better to be able to "reclassify" yourself in the next comp?

I've only been riding flat for 6 months, but I rode street/dirt for almost 10 years. So there are a thousand and one street tricks I can do (tailtaps, bunnhop barspins, icepicks, etc) that are non-flatland specific. I only say this to make it understood that I have prior experience and that helps massively with my progression due to the fact that I am already familiar with bmx and balance points.
I always loved flatland but never had the dedication or patience to do it. I would eff around here and there over the years, so I learned basic tricks like a tailwhip and peg wheelies, and its probably those two tricks and nailing manuals that helped me the most as far as having a basis to start flatland. Understanding your bike's center of gravity, weight, and your counter balance points is what flatland is ALL about. Having a background in that will make you progress much faster. And a set of massive steel street balls to help you learn decades and other crazy sh*t helps :) Im working on a new rolling trick that I've got half-way nailed (the ride in is the most difficult part, when I got it I can balance it for a while)...and it is very awkward to bail out of...and painful to not bail properly on as you can see here:

First, I would say you've been riding 4 years and 4 months. As thats the time that you have been riding flatland. This is a flatland forum, and a flatland competition. If I had rode a unicycle for 20 years, and could do all kinds of flip tricks and scuff's....I wouldnt say "I've been riding 20 years 6 months", regardless of how much the unicycling (street, vert, dirt etc) helped or hindered your flatlanding. If I had started riding flat when I was 10, and rode for 2 years and then rode street for 8, I would say that I've been riding 2 years 6 months.
As for the classification, I think its best left to vote. I dont know the direction of the competition...when it ends (I assume when no one's left to battle??), but at the end I think there should be a open vote on whether the winner should be moved to the next class, and maybe some way of structuring the voting so that losers are given the oppertunity to be fairly ranked by lowering their class.
Addison: The 'nosewheelie type spin' is called a g-turn, and thank you :) I dont think you need any luck, you've got a pretty solid trick set that can compete. Btw, I cant even come close to half-lashes :P I can manage a full whiplash feathering the brakes, but thats a chuck-all and jump on.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply to say that you've only been 'riding' 4 years 4 months, just that you've 'ridden flat' 4 years and 4 months. What you do while you ride flat (vert, street, extreme pogo'ing) doesnt matter, as long as your riding flat!
I dont miss McCoy's flat at all....or his g-turn's ....because he implemented them so good in the park!!! I remember him doing 720 tailtap's then would ride down the ramp in a fakie nose manual...god that was killer.

alright, here it is, I didn't get my foot on the pedal on the steam, and couldn't pedal to save the pedal megaspin, but I had very little to work with, it was basically 2 or 3 attempts, the Camera had very little space on it.

Personally, I love seeing "almost landed" stuff at the very outer limits of skillset, but you hit a couple good tricks as well. I like the fact that you try to go big. In time, you'll be pulling that stuff.

Super dude. I love that your trying some unique hard sh*t...the pedal spins are tough. There's video posted recently in this forum of trevlon hall...and he was doing some super long bw pedaling megaspin. I know matthias does them pretty good too!! And the hang 5 was nice!! :)
I stopped riding today after work before it got dark for the first time in a loonnng time. My knee is so swollen I cannot pedal :-( Effing ACL tear is KILLING me.

My knee is killing me. I took 2 days off, iced, anti-inflammatory's ...and after 20 minutes of riding today my left knee doesnt want to bend anymore. Im very afraid to land on it so im favoring my good knee...which will only lead to sorrow. It puts me in a very negative mood riding. I get much more frustrated.

iriez, as someone else with a f*cked knee (two surgeries) I feel you, I haven't been in a kneeling position since grade 11, which is a weird thing to think of. I ice my knee very seldom, but feel it always, you are a great rider and you should be using some of this GF footage to put together a "pre summer" video. keep it up.
Hellzcat, I still cant fathom you doing the mcCircle/spinning backward steam, it's such an amazing looking trick, your other stuff is dope, dont get me wrong.. but that aforementioned spinning steam is so not beginner, you should be proud. I hope I battle you after I learn One footed spinning manuals, aka pedal megaspins.

I know Im a little late on this, but Addison, werent you flipping hang-fives straight over the bars like a week ago, and now you can do them from here to ....................infinity. LOL AWESOME progression on that trick. Apply that determination to every aspect of your riding and DAMN, no limit to how good you will get. IRIEZ, your style is smooth, your G-turns are awesome and it looked like you had those mega-spins dialed both regular and switch-footed. Damn nice riding. Last but not least, HELLZ, you've got that Steam-roller McCircle trick on lock. (Its NOT an Easy trick) Finding something cool to link that into will be a great little routine. Good job to all you guys, nice skills. BTW, Cool4Love, you seem to knock alot of people and say alot of condescending things, where's your battle submission??????

Back4Good: My mega-spin's are far from dialed! If so I would be doing 1min on one megaspin....lol. :)
I spent today trying to learn hitchhikers. Then after a few hours, I realized that even if I did ride into one successfully.....I have NO way of getting out lol. I sat there for 10 minutes with the bike propped trying to get back into a halfhiker and put the bike down but failed miserably. editing my f*ckup's now :)

Once i start learning some expert tricks/links then i'll be in that class. Hopefully by next 'season' ....which would be summer. I havnt ridden in 3 days due to knee troubles. Hopefully i can ride tomorrow.

Personally, i think this is actually a good idea, and something I've thought about since these battles started.
I dont know if anyone has ever played text based RPG's (yes yes i know, SUPER dorky but FU), but adding that type of setup to this system can add ALOT ....i mean TONS of fun and motivation towards this type of thing.
For example:
Rider Joe vs Mike
Mike beats Joe with a score of 20 to 10. Mike earns 50 points for a 2:1 ratio win. Mike level's up to 'LVL 2 - Battle newb'. Upon gaining of certain levels you get new gear or parts or if we want to make it traditional RPG we can give 'powers' aswell. Maybe even distribute specific powers or items that can be used somehow in the battle process. Possibly 'flat tire' which invalidates a specific number of seconds towards the person's run.
Etc etc.
What do you guys think? Personally, i think such a system would be f*ckING KILLER and if you dont like it I HATE U SRSLY.

When other group battles end, maybe after some time a new competition will start. Only then you can sign up. The quality should be normal, but if it is clear what are you doing, then ok :)

Really don't know. When everything will end, winners will be announced and interviewed. And after that there will be the sign up period(no clear limit) so when everybody signs up, battles will start! :)
