I have owned st martin darwin frame + down town frame.
both were amazing.

I would expect the new stuff to be equaly nice.
spanish bb = no problem.  actually
theyr a little cheaper to replace bearings if one goes bad on ya.

The Darwin frame sucked! It flexed so bad i thought it was going to snap in 2! On the other hand i had a class x 2 and it was solid, just not my ''cup of tea'' to ride such a tiny frame...but hey, i can say i did, it's just not good for my specific type of progression, and where i am/where i needed to be @ that time....

I bet it wont last long enough based on your style of riding.
(dont get me wrong, it looks really nice ..... but I bet it wont last for your needs)

[ OFFTOPIC ]
I can't keep thinking how ridiculous that sounds everytime somebody writes it.

It's not your problem, I just don't get how "logical" it can be for some people to assume that a frame suits some kind of riding style.

Every frame should be suitable for any riding style, come on.. It's hard enough to take a chance on a frame that is durable enough and has a nice geometry, do we have to study what kind of riding style it is made for?..

I'm predicting a nightmare where riders have to be front wheel only, or strictly rear wheel or a world where riders can't do pedal stuff with certain frames or.. or.. come on!..

A frame is a frame, it should suit the riders needs not the oposite.
[/ OFFTOPIC ]

That Double Diamond looks nice, love the new dropout style. And those cranks still look flimsy but now they support any sprocket, sweet.

First of all, every video you've seen of my riding is well over a year old so you can't accurately assume what my style of riding is currently. Second, I spoke with Pat about how many St Martin double diamond style (class x) frames broke, and he said not a single one has broken out of all the ones he's sold. It's a stronger simpler design. I trust Pat.

Is there a reason you're being a dick about a decision that isn't yours? Is there a reason you think you know more about the failure rate of st martin frames than Pat Schoolen does?

edit: Also, do you think I'm the type of rider to make a stupid decision about such a large investment of my money without researching the number of frames made prior to this one by the same company that have broken? After all the sh*t I say about people pissing money away on sh*t they don't need, do you really think I haven't thought this through?

God no, not again dudes..

what, you buy that frame, you ride it like hell, if it brakes, try to get a replacement for free, if you can't get another one, or a different model, whatever.

byke, not your money, whatever.

I want a Diamond frame :P

Oh, and a full review/feedback on the lucky bastards who get to buy any of the new parts ;)

I didn't know a dick was able to make decisions **** ooh de ja vu thread **** ;)

We seem to have our wires crossed, I couldn't care less if you break a part.

But since you have been so prolific over the years regarding your standards and ideologies that
I just wanted to pass on a view that I firmly believe will effect you. And for my own selfish
sake of not having to read your disgruntled unhappiness I offered up the suggestion based
on my view.

So consider my original statement withdrawn.

I have had nothing but problems with every st. martin part I have ever had. The Darwin headtube got so loose that I could take my top headset cup out with 2 fingers. They told me it was because I didn't know how to keep the front end of my bike tight.

My forks are cracked and will be replaced once it gets warmer.

I will never run anything from them due to the horrible customer service and the crap they put there name on.

Wow, I am a bit surprised by Rhode's experience. I have run St. Martin Forks, pegs, and now bars and frame and had good experience so far. I guess no product is immune to a lemon or two. I will say the top tube on my Eiffel is so out of the way I wonder sometimes if it's even there. Looking forward to those Hollohubs...

True, no ClassX frames have been returned to us. A double diamond frame design is always going to be the strongest design so the Diamond frame will be stronger than another frame of comparable weight with a different frame design. TJ, anything can break. You know that. But this frame design is the least likely to break.

Not sure of the source of the argument and I will not get involved but I will say I love both TJ and Byke! Both good guys with lots of knowledge.

Cheers Pat,
I think me and TJ got our wires crossed. (it happens)

I agree a DD shape is generally the simplest and best way to distribute stresses equally.
And is normally the safest bet for riders to invest in a frame.

I do want to clear up one thing though (for the other readers)

I want to make sure that no one thinks I was bashing St.Martin parts (as I am not).
The St.Martin designs look nice and I have no issues with their designs or quality.

My observation was aimed at TJ directly that maybe this design and weight category wouldn't suit his needs based on his past experiences of bike parts. that was all.

The Diamond frame is essentially a very short Superstar Cooper, which surely can only be a good thing!

Also, SM is now using Sanko tubing which should be another improvement strength wise.

Props to SM for introducing the 19,4 tt back into the range!!
I want one big style, if only the £ weren't so sh*t right now ;(

My only criticism really, is I think SM should've kept the Class X name but oh well, I'll get over it I suppose. ; )

I'm not saying that it can't break! I was just saying it's a double diamond frame I can get behind. Or on top of. Or.. whatever.

Yeah the cs are mad short. It's like 12" on the Diamond...oh well I'll deal with it.

Yeah, that does worry me quite a bit, but the way I see it, overall the frame will be longer so I'm not too worried about it. If you look at the best riders in the world, they change frame sizes and designs all the time and it doesn't effect them much. I didn't realize that Matthias and I were on the same size, and if he can do all the crazy sh*t he does on those tiny bad thing frames, there is no reason why anyone else can't cope with frame sizes slightly smaller/larger than ideal. i just want a longer front end tbh.

True, but every time I've ever gotten anything shorter than a 13 - it just doesn't feel comfortable to me. It might be a good idea to go shorter than 165 cranks on it too.

The bad thing frame I rode felt quite long actually. Longer than I would have thought. But I had the 19 tt, 13 cs version....
