Title: Ogio Monster Bag?
Post by: Peter Hollinger on May 23, 2008, 11:10:33 PM
I hate travelling. I dont mind when i get to my destination, but i hate the travelling part. This is made even worse when i have to lumber a bike in a box around with me.

I dont travel often, but when i do i like things to be made as easy as possible.

I was checking out Cream issue #27 and on page 16 there is an OGIO bag that has a bike in it. Now, after much seaching the internet for an OGIO bike bag i found this . . . .

The OGIO Monster bag. Now Its for golf equipment yes, however i think this is the bag pictured in cream.

What do you guys think?

At £100 ($200), its not over priced and gets excellent reviews. Looks the sh*t in my eyes.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

I use a cheapass keyboard case. I has got 20 mm padding, fits my bike, all the tools, tire pump, shoes and riding clothes nicely. It's like 115 * 48 * 20 cm, never had to pay any fee while flying. The only downpart is it has no wheels.

Mark, what kind of bag is yours? I'm looking for something with wheels. Thanks!

i'm still using my artzone bag it must be over 4 years old now, it's nice and big so i've NEVER have to take anything apart. it was cheap too, you can make a good bag for 25 pounds.

there is a lot of space in it and its pretty cheap ;)
dimensions: 135cm x 42cm x 42cm

I think I will give it a try...

I would rock an artzone bag if they were still around. Artzone was dope.

Artzone was dope.

It was cheap, they had like two designs, and some track pants.

Oh, and the socks that everyone made sure people saw to know they were wearing ARTZONE.

I have a pair of the pants and the socks were amazing!  ^_^

Each to their own opinion though. I just liked how Dave made it all by hand. For riders by riders for real.

So . . .  the Ogio bag then . . .    :P

I just got the Ogio bag recently, in preparation for my trip to New Orleans.  The bag is REALLY big.  I'm traveling around at the moment and brought it with as I'm headed to NO from here, and without a bike in it, it seems ridiculously large.

On thing I'm worried about is if its too big.  If it doesn't fit in to my airways classification for golf equipment, they might charge me a fee for oversized baggage, and if they find out its a bike, it's an $80 fee each direction.

But, as for the bag itself, it looks like some high quality construction.  Its a little on the heavy side, so I'm a little worried about having my bike, tools, and clothes in there, if it will exceed my weight restriction as well.  If so, I might have to take my bars and seat off and put it in my carry on.

I usually have to pay for my bike anyway. So paying £15 is no big deal.

So you think its well constructed and the bike will be safe in there?

The Ogio Monster bag was originally designed to carry a Tournament size golf bag. So it is built very strong and very tough. It is completely different than a bag like the artzone bag which is really just a cover with no support and no padding. The Ogio bag is huge. Besides your bike is has enough external compartments and extra interior room to carry clothes, shoes, tools and everything you need on a trip. I know lots of riders who use them.

Yeah Pete, I think you should give the bag a shot.

Some of the reviews I read, the reviewer was talking about how whatever pricetag on it was small compared to the huge investment they were protecting by putting their clubs inside.  The cost of a set of clubs is a lot more than our bikes, and the bike seems to protect their stuff fine.

One thing one might worry about when travelling is the dropouts getting pinched, but this bag is big enough to leave your wheel in your fork and rear end, so you don't have to worry about anything bending I wouldn't think.  I'll let you know in a week how it goes on my trip to New Orleans if you like.
