Self-made Pegs
     Self-made pegs

Girts Zarins from Latvia sent us this article about his self-made pegs.

Recently I was thinking to make my bike lighter, because I thought that it is too heavy, especially the front of it. Than I decided to change my pegs because they were really massive. But the biggest problem was that here in shops werenīt any flatland pegs. There were only heavy street pegs which I already had. About ordering from online-shops somewhere in Germany I didnīt think, because it would be expensive to deliver them from Germany to Latvia etc.

Than in my mind came an wonderful idea - to try to make self-made pegs. I knew that in my fathers company work one guy who could help me with machining them. So I went to the steel shop and bought 60 cm tall aluminium bar. The material was D16t aluminium. How the salesmen said it is the strongest Russian aluminium. I paid for it about 8 Eur. After that I gave drawings and material to the engineer and he made wonderful pegs. But the main feature of it is that one my old crmo peg pair weighed 600 grams, but one new "self-made" peg pair weighs only 280 grams. You can see that difference is really big. In conclusion I can only say that I saved more than 0.5 kg only when I changed pegs.
