Name: Roman Rommel
Location: Stuttgart, Germany
When have you started riding?
I guess that was 2003. Back then I lived in Koblenz where I met Waldemar Fatkin. I started with him and we only had one bike to ride. We shared it until I could buy one for myself. That was the time when it really started. It was a good time, Waldemar always motivated me.
How often do you ride?
I try to ride 3 to 4 hours each day. That is not always possible, but I try to make it. Because of that I sometimes lose sight of other things. But that is alright. It is worth while.
Do you ride contests ? Your biggest success?
I try to compete in contests. Unfortunately it is now always possible. There are different reasons which make it hard for me to ride lots of contests. On the one hand i don’t have enough money to travel to the contests. On the other hand I don’t have enough time. I would not call it a success, but last year I got 4th in the master class at the BMX Masters.
Where do you ride ?
In summer i ride at the „Haus der Geschichte“ ( house of history ) in Stuttgart. It is a very big and good spot. When the weather is bad i ride in a passage in Stuttgart. It is a good spot, too. But you can only ride there in the evening.
Can you tell us a bit about the riding scene in your town?
In the past there were always a lot of riders. Sometimes there were so many that we had to ride in turns. It’s sad but it changed. Nowadays I often have to ride alone. Sometimes Flo Sailer and Techno Flori ( an amazing rider who learns the tricks super fast ) come by which is pretty cool. I don’t like to ride alone but I can not change the situation. Moreover Seppel had to move to another city for his internship. Hey Seppel, I am keen on having a cool session with you again !
Imagine you could make a flatland world tour, which 5 places would you like to visit for riding and why?
First of all I would fly to Russia. Next I would visit Spain. And Australia is a must-see, too. And in the end China. I guess these are the places i would like to visit.
Is there a goal you would like to reach concerning your riding?
I don’t ride for money, fame and all that shit. I just want to have fun and the feeling of flow. That’s the only thing. Or maybe getting girls ? I am not sure but that wouldn't be bad.
Which trick/combo do you work on at the moment?
I won’t tell you that.
Why should sponsors support you?
Because if they won’t my friend Waldemar Fatkin will hit you all.
Your current sponsors?
Kunstform (thank you Seppl) and Flatartcrew agency (Showteam)
You are half russian, so what do you think about the scene in Russia?
I don’t know much about it. But the videos i have seen were pretty good.
What kind of music do you like ?
I listen to every kind of music. It depends on my mood. When i feel bad i prefer slow music. When i feeld good i listen to fast music. Normally i listen to Hip Hop, Drum n Base. I don’t think i have favourite songs.
3 things you like and 3 things you hate ?
I like honest people because those are the ones you can trust. Moreover I like parties and women. I hate winter and boring evenings.
What’s your job ?
I am still pupil.
What are your hobbies besides flatland and do they influence your way of riding?
I don’t have any other hobbies beside. As i said i am a pupil. So i have to go to school each day, then go riding and then i need to sleep (my daily routine).
