When did you start riding? Why ride flatland above other forms of BMX?
I started riding back in 2004, learning both street and flatland basics, and after 2 years I bought a flatland bike and started riding mostly flat. I love it more than other forms, because it opens more possibilities and it’s not that dangerous. Anyway, I ride street and park too and I just love being on the bike.
How often do you ride?
In the wintertime I rode just few times, mostly in shows. When the weather gets better I ride some days for few hours. Nowadays I ride less than I did before.

Do you ride contests? If yes, what has been your biggest success? If no, why not? (It’s interesting to find out people’s views on competition…)
Yes, I really like contests and try to compete when I can! It’s a motivating thing to prepare for a competition and dial harder tricks than for shows; also meeting other riders is so great. It’s the vibe and the event for itself not just your 2 minute run to do. I really like watching other riders in live, not just videos on the net, and also cheering them up is nice! Speaking about great events – BMX Masters is the way to go, in 2010 I got the 1st place in Amateur class, but in 2011 I just started in the Pro class and it didn’t go well, because I practised very little. Rebel Jam in Eindhoven was way better, I scored 19th in the Pro class, which was a big step up, so this year should be better! (:
Where do you ride?
In summer I ride at my hometown skatepark, or in the city centre. During wintertime I ride at a really small spot in an underground parking lot, but it’s cool, since the security allows me to ride there.
What is the riding scene in your town like? Are there any other flatlanders?
I my small hometown we have 3 Flatland riders, which is basically 1/4 of the entire Flatland scene in Latvia. For a country with 1.9 million people, it seems too little, but there are a lot of newcomers, so Flat is not dead, it just needs a help from those more experienced riders, may it be giving advice in tricks or parts, or just motivating each other.
If you could take a flatland world tour, which 5 places would you like to visit for riding and why?
I will do a world tour dedicating each summer for a trip to a different place. Last time it was Central Europe, this summer I will go there again, but the 5 more will be:
1) North America: I really would like to go there, not just for bike riding, but for anything, the interesting culture and nature. Would like to hitchhike from one coast to other, meeting flatlanders in every city the road takes by.
2) South Europe: Haven’t been there that much, that is why I would like to visit Spain and Italy and enjoy the beautiful weather and riding.
3) Japan: Just for the incredible riding scene there.
4) Australia: The fantastic weather is the thing I want to enjoy, that’s why it’s my choice, also the interesting people and the nature is the reason.
5) South America or South Africa (both could be really great, exotic places, doesn’t matter, at least it’s not the ice age where I come from He He.)

Is there a goal you would like to reach concerning your riding?
I had different goals during my riding years, but right now I just want to keep it fun and find the perfect middle road between the hard practising and competitions versus relaxing and doing shows.
To earn a good income just by riding, so I can travel. That could be a good goal soon.
Which trick/combo are you working on at the moment?
Right now I’m dialling the tricks I worked on before the winter. Learning different pivots, nose manual links, turbines with jump tricks and of course exploring back wheel.
What kind of music do you like? What are your 3 favourite songs?
The music on my playlist is very different, let it be hip hop, jazz, electro, pop, indie, dubstep, rave, classical music. It depends on my mood and activities.
Favourite songs:
Eddie Vedder – Long Nights
Azealia Banks – 212
Zeds Dead - White Satin
Tell us 3 things you like and 3 things you don’t like...
I like the beauty of nature, girls and riding!
I don’t like flat tires. Yeah, that’s about it ;D
Do you work or study?
I work part time at a Raw Food restaurant, which is the one of the best works I could wish. Even after working for 14 hours a day I will go home with more energy than I went to work. It’s way more awesome than my studies ;D I study Environmentalism, this year I have to finish it and then freedom… He He
Do you have any hobbies besides flatland and do they influence your way of riding? (For example music you listen to, another sport, whatever)
I have played Floorball and did snowboarding for a long time, but right now my other hobbies are books, movies, nature and spending quality time with my friends. That is the way it influences my riding, I just enjoy it.

Have your say: This is the place for shoutouts, wise words or whatever you would like to tell the world!
I wanted to say, that Online Flatbattles 2012 are ready! The sign up is open and there are 4 skill classes for everyone, but just 16 spots in each, so be quick. Go f*** yourself! (go film yourself!) ha-ha ;D First of all I would like to say thanks to my friends, sponsors and others who have supported me. Big thanks to those who participate in Online Battles, judge and help to organize them! Martin, thanks man! Just wanted to say some words for the new riders. Ride hard, but don’t stress out about competitions or riding level. I know how easy it’s to compare yourself to other riders, it helps progression, but it kills the fun. Let’s just keep it fun. World is Flat!
