April 2011: Rayk Hahne from Germany

Name: My name is Rayk Hahne.
Age:  I’m 23 years old.
Sex: Male as you can see.
Location: I’m from Neubrandenburg, but because of my studying my domicile (home) changes every 10 weeks between Kiel and Hamburg. During my apprenticeship I lived 4 years in Rostock. It also became a hometown for me.

When did you start riding?
I started riding small bikes in 2005 with a WTP Dare Devil. I started riding Street first but I decided early that Flatland is any better for me to express myself.

How often do you ride?
I try to ride 4 or 5 times a week but it depends on my work schedule.

Do you ride contests?  If yes, what has been your biggest success?
I love contests. You meet a lot of friends and can get in touch with new riders. My biggest success has been the qualification at the Worlds with the 4th place and the first places at the Field Control and Flatland Fanatics 2010

Where do you ride? – Your Spot(s)

front balance
I got a couple of spots in every city, almost one for every weather situation. Check my videos to get an overview.

Can you tell us a bit about the riding scene in your town?
In every city are riders of course but because of my working time I often have to ride on my own. If I can get in touch with the other guys, then only with 1 or 2 in every city (except Hamburg). We enjoy our time and I support them in their development.

Imagine you could make a flatland world tour, which 5 places would you like to visit for riding and why?
Japan (it’s clear why), USA (I love the attitude of the people there), Finland (these guys are fun and Martti would be a perfect coach for me), Spain (there is sun and the scene with Guelo and Moya is very inspiring), Germany (visit all the German guys and share a good time).

Is there a goal you would like to reach concerning your riding?
I see my aims in riding more in an inspirational way then in a strict career. It’s a big aim to sensitise people to more self-creation in their lives by showing them my way of self-fulfilment. I love to share the feeling of exploring new ways of movement and to receive emotions by people exploring their bodies in action, not only with bikes in every way.

Which trick/combo do you work on at the moment?
Xfooted Nosemanual-2-Halflash-2-Switchfooted Rocketmanual-2- Jump on the Backwheel-2- pumping-2- bikevarial wo scuffing -2- Backyard-2- full Bikevarial-2- Backyard-2- full Bikevarial-2- Geratorspin-2- Bikevairal-out.

What kind of music do you like? Tell us your 3 favourite songs
Uriah Heep- Gypsy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wgOz8iweLc

Jimmy Hendrix- All along the watchtower http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7zuq_jimi-hendrix-all-along-the-watchtow_music

Cat Stevens- First cut is the deepest

I really love the 60s, 70s the most and 80s as well. For riding I enjoy iTunes podcasts, for example “Groove to chill”; “Deep House Cat” and “Mogwai”.

break dance

Tell us 3 things you like and 3 things you don’t like...
I do not like lazy people and tricks which will not work after a long time of practise, but anyways I always will try them to death.

What is your job/what do you study?
I finished my dual apprenticeship of taxes this summer and now I study in a dual system Economics and work for a dental consultant company.

What are your hobbies besides flatland and do they influence your way of riding? (for example music you listen to, another sport you make or whatever)
My other passion is Breakdance. I started breaking 11 years ago. I combine my two hearted passions with my friends Philipp Preiss and Maik Müller in our company Just Freerun. We bond Freerunning, Breakdance and Flatland BMX and do shows, workshops, commercials and many more interesting things with our sport. This influences my riding a lot because I started to realise that thinking and feeling is as much important for riding as practise is, too.

Last words: This is the place for shoutouts, wise words or whatever you would like to tell the world
Thanks to my girlfriend, my sister, my parents, as well as Maik and Phil for the great support. Furthermore I really thank to all riders who try to support BMX and Flatland, like Terry Adams, Matt Willhelm, the French connection and many more. The mentioned persons and all the other riders are giving their best with every show.

There are no more wise words. I know that every rider has his own ideas: let them out and share them with us. Cheers, Rayk Hahne
