MAGICFLART: THE MAGIC ART

Magicflart is the biggest flatland contest in the history of Colombia and is a big step for the evolution of the sport in this country. Many people wonder how Magicflart came to be.

imageThe idea began some years before when some flatlanders analyzed and looked at national and international events. We needed something bigger for the sport, something more recognizable that would motivate riders and give flatland higher status in society. Magicflart was created to meet this need.

It was important for us to create something transcendent, something enduring, yet something that grows and shows the world how incredible flatland is. We prepared for several months, wondering, what are we going to do, and how are we going to do it? But then all our work began to take form and to develop until it was fulfilled.

The first thing that we chose was the name. We wanted something original and meaningful. There arose the idea of joining three words to form the name of the event: Magic, Flatland and Art. Why magic? The answer is simple, who has not thought of some flatland trick a magical? Why flatland? Because it is the name of the sport. Why art? Because art defines flatland; it implies two important things: originality and creativity. Thus MAGIC+FLART (Flatland+Art) and the slogan, “The magic art”.

As for the logo, we wanted something original and meaningful. We chose a bush that visually is an "F" for flatland. It is something natural (as is the art of every flatlander), a symbol that expresses land (flatland is practiced on the soil), and demonstrates life, the life that all flatlanders give to our sport.

A lot of hardwork came next. We looked for places to hold the event and sponsors. We developed the website, made flyers, held demos, did interviews, and much more. Finally, the day arrived.

I think many people underestimated Magicflart at first. For many that saw it in the mall or on TV, this was something really new and I am sure that they were surprised and impressed.

imageIn the event, we had the participation of many Colombian flatlanders and 5 international ones: From Peru (Cliff Alania and Williams Perez), from France (Matthias Dandois and Raphael Chiquet) and from the United States (Justin Miller). Thank you to all present and love to Matthias, Raphael, and Justin. I had the opportunity to share many moments with them and they motivated all the riders in Colombia. When they return again, they will see how important it was that they came, because meeting them was a dream for many of us.

In the competition, the scene was really grand. A perfect place, suitable soil, screens with videos of flatland, totally full steps, people shouting and jumping with emotion, and all the flatlanders in the center of attention. Ultimately is was very satisfying and will be remembered through many autographs, photos, and videos.

This event shows many people that Colombia is not the bad place that many people hear of. Despite that reputation, when you are here you can see that it is totally different. It´s all about friendship, happiness, and diversity in the flatland family.

Now it continues with the following Magicflart that will be held on November 1 and 2, 2008. All the flatlanders around the world are invited to Colombia´s biggest flatland competition.

Thank you very much to all the people who helped us. They motivated and inspired us to create Magicflart. To all the flatlanders and certainly to the sponsors, media partners, and companies that supported:
